I think the Bible however can not be seen as the source when we want to tackle what Christian belief was originally. If you have a closer look, women have a rather negative image in the Bible which is due to the fact that the Bible was written by men, not women who wanted to secure their power in a post-Christ world.

*shakes head* Christianity started with the Bible/New Testament (or book of Christ). I am not referring to the Old Testament. Before the New Testament, there were no Christians. And yes, the Bible was written by man, so obviously his ideas influenced him. The whole woman behind man was already established in the area long before the Bible. So it is not just Christian, it is Hebrew and Islamic and so on. The idea of women being equal is rather new. Or it might have formed by a woman sect that wanted to break away from society.

That´s where you´re wrong. When the gospels for the New Testament were written, Jesus had already been dead for 100 and more years. Christianity started in his lifetime. The early Christian communities also had female priests and Christianity actually started off as a religion of women and slaves (sort of an underdog religion if you will).

Another reason why I can say the Bible is flawed. ;D

Of course it is flawed. Also because the gospels were chosen. There were dozens of gospels. They picked the four that were most in their sense of the message.

It wouldn´t be too off, because ideas like that are ideas that are taken up in Dan Brown novels and I wouldn´t entirely dismiss those as non-fantasy even though I love them and I love the ideas he plays with ;D That said, I want the autumn holidays to start so I can finally go buy his new book.

I have a rather devote preacher/friend on campus that says the Bible is the truth. ;D That said, I want the autumn holidays to start so I can finally go buy his new book. Aw, my poor baby. *rubs Sinbad's back*

You can shock him: Ask him if the Bible he uses is the St. James bible. Because if he says that it is, then he should know that tehre are TONS of translation flaws in it (no kidding) which cause that this version of the Bible is very remote from the original meaning in some areas. I just discussed that with a friend from America yesterday who told me that. Yeah, me wants to read Dan Brown. *is patted*

One and a half more weeks. And survive is the word because there is so much to do after work. Work itself as in teaching is tons of fun, I wouldn´t complain about that.

Well, in Harry Potter, the book is quite long and impossible to put everything in a movie. I know but i really do hope they do justice to the "deathly hallows" book when creating the movie..it was an awesome piece of craft... cant wait for the premiere next yr

-revives thread- (lol) Has anyone here ever read any of The Dark is Rising sequence by Susan Cooper? They are probably among my very favorite fantasy books ever! ;D And I hate that they made a movie based on the first book (The Dark is Rising) that was so completely different from the book; I don't think there was *anyone* involved (except maybe the costume designer, since she got at least one of the costumes down perfectly?) that had any respect at all for the books or the fans of the books. I could really go into a rant here, but I shall try not to. -wishes that someone like Peter Jackson had adapted the books to film-
