Firouz was happy his attempt worked again. Two attempts in a row working well. That is good news. He smiled to himself before turning to Sinbad. "Aye, I see you are in a good mood. And I like that you decided to shave. I always liked that boyish smile of yours."

The smile? Sinbad thought. Or the guy I was when I still ran around with my face shaved? He wasn´t sure whether Firouz meant that or whether he chose not to address things that directly, but for now he didn´t care much. As his friend had said, they were heading towards Basra and that was a reason to look on the bright side of life. He tossed the other man a short glance that showed he appreciated the humour.
"Been quite a while since we´ve been to Basra, eh?" he then said, finally finding the map he had been looking for.

Firouz smiled back. "Aye. Yes, it has been quite a while since we last seen Basra." He walked to Sinbad, who was holding the map. "So, do you have anything in mind while we are in Basra, besides dropping-off our cargo?"

The cargo they had with them had been a spontaneous trade. A few days ago they had just set sail from Scratch´s island with no aim, but when the oportunity to take some barrels to Basra had presented itself, the captain had agreed. It was good money and even though they were not running low on it, it was an oportunity too good to deny it. That even though the destination of Basra had given him mixed feelings. He had friends there, yes, but things also felt very familiar and reminded him of the old times.
He gave a shrug. "Not really, no." he said. "If we find more oportunities to trade in the vicinity this would be good, because I for one could do with a somewhat quieter time for a change."

Firouz looked at him somewhat questionably. "I think we all can spare a few days in Basra. We all need some rest, especially you captain."

Sinbad crooked a smirk, peeking at the map and blinking once, but managing to blink away slight drowsiness. "I keep hearing that these days." he said. "and I promise I´ll most likely drop dead tonight after the first pint of ale."

Firouz chuckled at that. "I am a doctor Sinbad, and I can tell if you need rest. As for the ale, I would recommend you wait till you have slept some. We don't need a dead captain, either."

"Oh, I don´t think you´ll have to worry about me there," Sinbad said, his smirk becoming a bit more pronounced, but now also bearing a trace of sarcasm. "The devil didn´t finish me off, so I don´t think some ale will."

Firouz chuckled and patted Sinbad on the back. "True, true. But don't be too over confident," Firouz said in a laughing tone. He then looked at the map Sinbad was studying. "So where exactly are we, captain?"

Sinbad chuckled, then pointed at a spot on the map, just a little way off the shore."About here if my calculations are right." he said. "It´s not far now.We should almost be able to see the port now."

"That is good." Firouz pointed at the map. "We should avoid this area. The river outlet makes it highly possible for sandbars."

Sinbad agreed with a nod. "Yeah." he said, his finger tracing a way around the area Firouz had indicated. "we usually took this route towards the port, it´s safer that way and the currents are less strong there, too." It felt good, it felt normal to talk about things like these. Just like a sailor´s life should be and the captain unconsciously enjoyed this simple fact more than he was aware of it.

Firouz glanced at him. He smiled. "Aye, captain knows best. So what do you say, should we go on deck and watch as we approach port? I will bring the Magnescope just in case."

Sinbad nodded. "Yes." he said. "and I´ll take over the tiller again and bring us in. I just hope Rongar didn´t fall asleep up there." he added with half a smirk., his words only indirecty betraying his bad conscience against his friend who had willingly taken over his shift earlier.

Firouz playfully slapped Sinbad on the back and started walking to the door. He grabbed the knob and opened the door. He turned to Sinbad. "Well, you coming?"
