[Takes place after "Princess shopping in Basra"]
Caipra had spent her morning visiting some of her patients to give them their medicines, as she always used to do. Around midday, She was on her way back home when she passed in front of Kriss's tavern. The old sorceress hadn't seen the young lady since she had left her with that strange new girl, the day before.
She had felt that it was not the good moment to ask questions back then, but maybe she could get more answers today. The young unknown woman had intrigued her, and most of all, she wanted to know what happened to them before they came back to the tavern.
Caipra entered the tavern. There was no sign of the tavern's owner. A waitress told her that she'd left earlier in the morning with her son and the new girl, and that she would probably be back soon. So the old lady decided to wait for a while.
About an hour later, the front door opened and a little boy ran inside the tavern, quickly followed by two women. "Hey little angel, how are you today?" Caipra said when Aniel reached her.

When Kriss passed the doorsill the smile on her face disappeared. Her eyes turned at her son who was taking out his souvenirs from the backpack and showing them to Caipra. She had been expecting this visit. It was obvious that her friend would come sooner or later after what she had seen when Kriss had gotten back from the forest with some strange woman.
With a little gesture of her head she gave Kahlan a polite sign to go to the kitchen. Then she want closer to Caipra and Aniel. She put back the basket on the bar and with a warm smile she greeted her, "Hello, Caipra."

Kahlan had the same reaction than Kriss when she saw the old lady. She still didn't know how to behave in front of her, she was making her uncomfortable. Fortunately, her new friend asked her to go the kitchen by a sign of her head. Kahlan nodded and went toward the kitchen. She made a quick shy smile to the lady before disappearing behind the door.

Caipra smiled at the little boy who was showing her his souvenirs. "Aww, you must have been a very good little boy to be spoiled like that. I hope you have thanked your mum." she caressed Aniel's hair and looked up just to see the strange girl smiling at her before disappearing in the kitchen. The old woman saw her face better for a short moment, and her instinct was telling her that this young lady had something different from the others. She had felt the same thing when she had met Kriss, and her feelings had been revealed true. She would probably know soon if her feelings were right once again.
Caipra looked at the tavern's owner when she spoke to her and answered with a smile. "Hi, Kriss, you look better than yesterday."

Kriss giggled at the little sarcasm which Caipra had hidden behind her warm smile. "Yeah, indeed." She answered and asked, "What brings you here?" That question was stupid somehow because she exactly knew what could have brought her friend to the tavern. She just did not know how to start.

The two women knew each other so well by now, that they both perfectly knew the reason why Caipra was here today. However, The old woman gave the answer Kriss's was expecting. She shrugged her shoulders, joined her hands and said. "Well, I was hoping that I could learn more about what happened yesterday. Seeing how, and when, you came back to the tavern, I think you can understand that I was a little worried." Caipra was now looking in Kriss's eyes.

Caipra belonged to a small group of people that quietly looked into the eyes of Kriss de Valnor. That look simply did not work on the old woman. An answer for this question was inevitable. Kriss was just thinking what option she should choose. For the very first time she thought that telling the true could be the best option.
The archer took off her beige coat and she sat down next to Caipra. "Some shameless guys disturbed me my relaxation time..." She started...

In another context, Caipra could have been joking, answering that it wouldn't be the first time that such a thing happens, but she knew that this time, the case seemed more serious. "Does this has something to do with that new girl?" She simply asked, showing the door of the kitchen with a sign of her head.

Kriss did not know how to gently tell her the truth. However, she guessed that nothing could possibly surprise her. She decided to tell it straight. She looked around, got closer to Caipra and whispered, "They wanted to kill her..."

Men trying to kill a strange woman in Basra...there was something weird in that story, thought Caipra. She had never seen Kahlan in the city before. So she didn't know who could be after her, unless her attackers were not from Basra either. The old woman needed more details. If Kriss wanted to help the young woman, maybe she could do something as well. "Did she tell you why? What do you know about her and those men?"

"I don't know much about her..." Kriss said and added, "She ran away from her home after when she had found her whole family being killled. These guys just wanted to finish the job..." She could see a confusion in Caipra's eyes. "I couldn't leave her like that in the forest. You know that there is nowhere to go..." The archer was trying to explain her doings to Caipra and also to herslef.

Caipa didn't know what to think about it. What kind of girl could Kahlan be, so that her attackers had chased her until the forest of Basra, to make sure she'd disappear with the rest of her family. "Of course you did right, dear." She answered to Kriss, who now seemed as confused as she was. She took her hand on the table and added "And she was lucky that you were in the vicinity to help her. Who knows what could have happened to her, otherwise..." she stopped for a moment and then said, whispering "So if I understand correctly, you had to..." She didn't finish her sentence. Kriss knew perfectly what she was talking about.

Caipra's little gesture made her feel a bit better. Kriss exactly knew that she had done what she had had to do. "I had to..." She was gald that she had told everything to the old woman. Well, maybe not everything but she thought it would have been better if she had not told her about an adulteration of the permit. She surpassed the next question and said, "She is going to stay here, in the tavern for now. She can help and maybe I will be able to get to know more about her..." The archer browsed.

Caipra knew what kind of person was Kriss before arriving in Basra. So she could very well imagine what had happened to those men. In a way, the old lady was happy for her friend. As far as she knew Kriss, the young lady was rather solitaire. But the arrival of this new young woman seemed to have awakened something in her. She smiled at the archer. "Well, she couldn't have found a better person than you, here. I hope everything will be okay for her, and if there is anything I can do, you know where to find me." she said with a wink.

Kriss knew that she could always count on Caipra. She just nodded at her words with a warm smile. She took a qucik look at her son who still was admiring his new items and then turned back at her friend, "Maybe you will stay for a lunch?"
