Ashven's face contorted, wrinkling up in anger as he slammed his right fist down on the box, reopening the gashes allowing a new flush of blood to leak onto the top of the box. He shouted much louder and with much more fury than he had intended.
"It's not JUST a stone!"
His face relaxed again almost immediately as he brought his left hand up to his forehead, propping the elbow on his knee.
"I apologize. I've never actually been angry before. You must understand. To your eyes it may be just a simple stone.."
He sighed. There was no way around it.. He'd have to explain.. at least just enough. He didn't like it but what other choice did he have? This wasn't his world. He didn't know his way around. If he couldn't figure out a way to get the stone back he was at the mercy of whatever fate befell his stone. At least these two might be able to help in some way.
"If that stone is damaged.. My life is forfeit."

Thea jerked at Ash's initial reaction. She took a couple of breaths and said, "Ash, it can't be worth you life. Could you find a replica perhaps?"

Khei, too, jumped. Her reaction so quick a cat like hiss escaped from her mouth before she could stop herself. She slapped a hand over her mouth, eyes darting to Ash then Thea. She quickly removed her hand and shook her head.
"Thea's right. It can't be worth your life. A purple gemstone should be easy enough to find to replace it."

Ash looked back and forth, between the two of them and shook his head, agitated.
"I know it's hard for a mortal to understand but please try."
He swallowed back the lump in his throat and tried to make his stomach settle before pulling back his hair and pointing to the "scar" on his forehead. He ignored the fact that he was now dripping blood onto his clothes.
"The truth of the matter.. is.. that the stone belongs here.."
He sighed and slumped over again.
"It.. I'm tied to it.. my existence.. is tied to it.. It's not WORTH my life. It IS my life."
Inside, his mind was screaming at him. Admitting the value of his stone was not something he was willing to share yet here he had done so.. He didn't see any other choice. He didn't like needing help.. help from humans even less.. What else was he to do?

Thea heard Khei's hiss and a curious smile played on her lips. She turned her attention back to Ashven as he explained the importance of his gemstone.
"The stone..." Thea grappled for the right words "...is your lifeline." Thinking over it for a moment, getting over her intial shock, she said, "You're magical, aren't you?"

A wry smirk found it's way onto his face briefly before giving a small nod.
"You.. could say that.. in a way."
He frowned again as he looked out over the rippling waters.
"Question is.. What to do now."

"Riddle me this. First," she said, holding up a finger, "What are you specifically?" A brief image of a large dog that was meant to be somewhere around here sprung into her mind. Ash must have something to do with that. Honestly, Thea wasn't as surprised as she should be at hearing about Ashven's otherness. Khei got her used to the idea. "Second," she held up another finger, "Is the gemstone dangerous? It is the hands of cut throat crooks and if it poses a danger it should be taken out there hands, I'm guessing."

Ash turned his head to look at Thea as she asked, point blank, what he was. He thought to himself momentarily, sifting through his mind as if weighing how best to answer the questions.
No reason to lie I guess.. it's not like they have any better chance at getting the stone now anyway.
He smiled lightly as if mildly amused for the moment.
"I'm flattered you would suspect that my stone could be dangerous. The stone is harmless to anyone really."
He eyed Khei up and down before smirking and nodding in her direction.
"I'd say that your friend here is far more dangerous than my stone could ever be."
He returned his attention to Thea, his arrogance seemed to be somewhat restored for the moment.
"As for myself. I must admit specifics would likely be beyond your understanding."
He finally slid off the box, landing gracefully on his feet. His hand had stopped bleeding.. again.
"The best answer I can give you as to what I am is a Djinn."
He gave a slight bow before straightening up, raising an eyebrow at the two of them.
"Don't get any wild ideas however. I do as I please. I have no master."

Khei openly growled at Ash's accusation. For the moment she didn't bother to keep acting human. She bared her teeth in anger, pointing a finger at him as she spoke.
"Don't you dare accuse me of such things! I don't care who or what you are. You know nothing about me!"

Ash smirked at her, grabbing her arm by her bracer.
"Ah but you are quite wrong. I know more than you likely know of yourself."

Thea didn't like the scene she was witnessing. Ash emitted an air of menace though something about seem like it was not harmful. Ashven and Khei's otherwordly secrets seemed to pulse through the air. It made Thea acutely aware of the potential these two had. She didn't understand what Ashven meant about Khei and she through her arms up into the air in exasperation.
"Let her go!," she yelled at Ashven.

Ash glanced at Thea, still smirking, before doing as asked. He let go of Khei's arm and shook his hand as if dismissing the minor altercation.
"We may discuss such things at a later time."

Khei growled again as she jerked her released hand away from him. She folded her arms, regaining some form of composure. She stepped closer to Thea, away from Ash, still glaring at him.
"I think maybe we should just leave him and go about our business.. The money can't be worth dealing with him any longer than we have already."

Thea's anger flared and she couldn't agree more with Khei. Moments ago she was pitying Ash, now she was eager to leave him.
"Ashven, I believe this is where we part ways," she said angrily. "We have no reason to stay."

Ashven frowned but gave a polite bow. His arrogance from before rearing it's ugly head.
"If that's how you feel then I am in no position to stop you."
He leaned against the box, folding his arms, a wry grin returning.
"I trust you will not spread rumors of my identity. It would be troubling if you were to make such knowledge publicly known."
