Oookay, here it is. ;D
May I present to you? Our Doubs and Maeve. ;D The original first mate clearly has a better singing voice though, but I still find ours' to be charming, too. ^^

Awww, thanks for the vid! Maeve's not bad at all, although her original voice sounds better as well. Well, at least you didn't have the big contrast like in French, 'cause Maeve's dubbed French voice doesn't sound at all like Jackie's! And to switch from the original English song to the French dubbing was kinda weird...

Rumina: True enough. Jacki sings better, too, but our Maeve's not bad either. And I hear you on the dubbing. It must be weird to hear the original persons sing and then they go back to the dubbing. Our voices indeed are not too different from the real poeple, yet when I heard the English original for the very first time I went all: I heard every single difference back then. Nowadays however I got used to both versions and don't feel there are huge differences anymore. @kriss: And I didn't say that I preferred our version. In fact I have to admit I prefer none of them. Our Doubar clearly has some difficulties with the deeper tones, but that's cute in some way. xD

Both are really nice! I could hear the differences, but they weren't big ones! And Did you notice, in the original, FIrouz has stopped playing to listen to Maeve sing? ;D

Thanx. And yeah, the difference is there. Ha, he does stop to play though? XD No, I never noticed. xD *checks* Lol! Yeah, he does. ;D And Rongar stops playing, too (one would only have to wonder where the violin still comes from ;D ). Awesome. ;D All the guys are silent and listen to her. No wonder Sinbad forgot about the tiller as well. ;D

In French they didn't even dub it. It was the original English version and then they just switched back to the French voices. *shakes head* I wonder how they would have translated it... I didn't know they had used the french voices for the song, I thought it was the english voices... But then my question is...what's the point? why do they need to "dub it" if they're saying exactly the same thing... The German version is nice but I prefer the original too. ;D

@kal: Well, I didn't check on the French version yet, but I thought Maeve meant that they had not dubbed the song. So it was the English voices singing, and then the next thing you heard were the French voices as they were speaking.

@doubar: Oh, you must be right, I didn't get it that way. But it sounds logical now. They indeed used the original voices for the song.

Though that reminds me.. I wanted to check the French version anyway. Should be interesting to hear what your crew sounded like.

I was rereading this, just to hear the song again, but decided to go back and read the whole thread... everyone I had a further thought on this after I reread it. And again, this is my opinion, so feel free to say differently otherwise...Rumina, Bryn and (Serendib: in theory) were naturals because both parents had magic and were taught from the time they were babies about their magic. Maeve on the other hand, had a mother whose skill was small and wasn't really taught anything more than, maybe telepathy, had to be taught how to open the pathways to reach her magic. Perhaps, like a muscle or language, the earlier and more you use it, the more easier and stronger it is to obtain. Rumina, Bryn, and from a few hints Serendib all used their magics early on and continued to do so whereas Maeve started late and like all late bloomers with muscles and language skills its that much harder to do. Plus, Turok and Bri were using their magics with great skill and chances are that when Bri was pregnant with Rumina and Bryn she was using her magic so it was imbude in Rumina and Bryn since their conception. Again whereas, Maeve's mother (by way of her lesser skill and her need to be taught) didn't use her powers so Maeve and Dermott didn't have the pre-birth pathways needed open to use her magic from such an early age. **Blinks** Wow, didn't think I had that much of a thought with this, but (shrugs) all well, what do you all think?

That is a very good theory. Especially the more magic your introduced to the more magic al you are. Great phrasing . I really like the thought of this, about the pregnancy, so by by birth they were already subjected to having some magical abililties. Because they say what the mother does during a pregnancy (like what they eat, drink etc...) affects the pregnancy so I see how it could be the same with magic. everyone: I'm just wondering, in terms of the show, if maeve's magical power and skill is less powerful by the fact she is not a natural and as said by Caipra, that dark magic is easier to learn than good magic, and she is at a disadvantage by these facts.

Yes, I think Maeve is at a sever disadvantage, but if you use my theory, the more she uses it, the stronger and easier it will be.
She just needs more time and practice to 'close the gap' as it were between her and Rumina and Bryn.
