They usually have a few models that are half a year or so old for really cheap

Aye, even when new, workstations are generally cheaper than laptops. Some sell for $699. But if you can get a cheaper value, that is great. Just ask for on with Windows XP or any other version of Windows installed. DO NOT GET VISTA. IT SUCKS.

Yeah, my best friend has a workstation and is very happy with it. She says they work faster than the pcs she had so far and I like working with a fast computer, especially since I often have several windows and programmes open at the same time and depending on how many, my laptop tends to slow down when I do that.

Heh, so many people say vista sucks.

I had XP at my pc at my parents´ place and I have Vista at my laptop that I´m sitting at right now. I don´t really see a difference there, but that´s probably because I´m not that much of a computer geek.
