Alright guys ,,, as I see there are some confusions and questions concerning Arabian culture which is tightly related to the show and that‘s concerning for examples the crew behavior,, the names some vocabulary and so on,, I’m quite sure that many of you if not all had already guessed about some questions or may be searched about,, and of course I’m not underestimating any of you,, but I guess since you have some Arabian members here –I’m sure there are some which I didn’t get a chance to meet yet- so why not get benefit of this,, and use their knowledge –as much as they could have- to overcome this confusion and find answers to any question may cross your mind ??
I have to admit that the idea of this thread had never cross my mind until my dear Doubar had suggested that to me,,, I thought about discussing any question of yours when was asked in any other thread,, but then I realized that those informations will be scattered everywhere and when needed again it’ll be hard to find,, so I thank Doubar for this brilliant idea,
And again I have to confess that as this culture and history are mine and my people’s that I know so much by studying them in all my school years and my own researches –for I like this domain so much and my curiosity in it specially the Arabian and the egyptian never comes to an end- as well as many knowledge I got from our simple daily discussion with my family since my childhood,,,,,, all of this but to be fair I forget many informations since I started my specific scientific studies at the uni,, however I still can provide answers you may request and with a little bit searching –because of the already basics I got but to be more precise – I guess can help in this,,
Point is I’m TOTALLY open to any of your questions guys, please don’t hesitate to ask about ANY thing may cross your minds,,
The culture here by the way include any and everything you may think about like : history ( which itself includes A LOT of branches >> general Arabian all over the Arabian countries,, specific Arabian to each of them ,, the very old ones as old Egyptian “ Pharaonic’’ , old Syrian “Phoenician’’,, old Iraquian ‘’ both Sumerian & Assyrian’’,, the old one of Arabic Saudi ‘’ different famous desert tribes and families’ ect…) ,, their traditions, similarities and differences, Arabian names , old cities , religious aspects ,, Arabian language and vocabulary ,, different accents/dialects and so on…
Well enough babbling now ;D lets begin our thread AND REALLY HOPE IT COULD BE USEFUL FOR YOU

So my first thing that caught my eyes, that some of you were wondering about some carpets present in the galley and some deduced that they were for praying, but got confused about that that even some suspect about imagining the characters were praying so that they were not very concerned about their religion, as also we all noticed their strange behavior as drinking alcohols and accompanying women ,,,
As well as some had been confused between Iraq and Persia (Iran)
Something else was about the real meaning of the word ‘Harim/Hareem’
So here is my answer –that’ll be SOOOOO long unfortunately –
First of all I would like to tell you my opinions and reactions towards the difference between the 2 seasons as a point of view of a simple Arabian spectator:
The first one was like ideal as the show was very respecting the Arabian culture which supposed been taken in consideration as the main characters if not the most were Arabian,, and many places the show is taken place in were parts of the Arabian world as well,, so we can see their costumes were so Arabian especially concerning Sinbad who had change it in S2, as well as their vocabulary that we may notice like: “By the name of Allah” with very few exception as “Holy Moly” that can be considered as they are in fact sailors who travelling the whole word and for sure they could/should acquired and been affected by other cultures but generally S1 was going far too well, we still can see Sinbad reaction towards the ladies he encountered during his travels –in except of Maeve of course- being kind of polite and never go far in any relationship with any of them, but only treating them as a gentleman ,, it was the ladies who crush on him and flirts with him and he sometimes got annoyed, shocked or even shy by their reactions,,, that was totally opposite in S2 and I guess I don’t need to enter in these details as you all had noticed and know about very well,, but the costume in S2 was very WEIRD I mean you all said it’s kind of pirate ,, well I agree with this but at certain limits as you see the Arabian men at that time had all same kind of uniform/style in cloths pirate or no pirate they were the same,,,,, so his outfit wasn’t fitting neither the time nor his culture in any way under any condition,, and that is totally unacceptable,,
And another feature here we all notice too : alcohols,
In S1 we can see the crew drank it but not so many , just to be fair,, and it was mostly Doubar who was concerning, Aye in many occasions we saw them drinking things but only few that we can be sure it was alcohol,, I mean in most cases why wouldn’t it be like some fresh juices (when being invited some where like at princess Gaia palace …) or some traditional drinks of theirs (when been at rest on island openly)
We are sure at Omar and Vincenzo palaces as well as some taverns that was wine,, most taverns I guess would provide beers because it is the most common,, wine only provided by kings and rich men,
Still in S2 that (alcohol) was shown more and especially Sinbad, who by the way was shown never interested in it in S1 I mean he drank it but never demanded or desired it,, in S2 he was enjoying it,
I know you all will say it’s because he want to forget about his pain of losing his love,,, ok I still keep saying that to myself but as Arabian and the show should talking about Arabian I never was convinced 100% by these changes that I reached a point where I was considering it any show other than Sinbad/ or it discussed any other culture than the Arabian definitely. And the only cause I kept watching my curiosity to the events and my love to the char themselves as well as the actors,, if I never seen S1 and started by S2 I would only ask why they call him Sinbad
!!!!! And why many people’s names are Arabian though it is DEFINITLY NOT Arabian at all !!!!!!!!!!!

I DEFINETLY ASSURE YOU that the char of S1 looked for me as practicing their praying and I can imagine them well doing it,,,
BIG QUESTION NOW: how but they are drinking alcohols and enjoying being with women !!!!
Answer is simply historical,, please be patient with me in the coming info;
N.B. I guess here guys we’ll discuss a mixed history-religion issues
First of all ladies & gentleman you should know that the Arabian history (VERY LOOOOOOOOOOOOONG AND COMPLICATED but yet very interesting) is divided to different stages according the time as well as who was ruling what ,
First stage is very unknown by non Arabian is called AlGahilya (= the ignorance) that was before Islam,, and here we find all the origins of people living in tribes in desert in Saudi,, those were the origins,, their basic traditions/cultures still present till now but modified a lot by Islam afterwards,,,, those people were drinking alcohols may be like we drink water,,, and enjoyed women as much they can,, also every rich has Hareem and so many slaves,, we are not interesting in them any way,, but I should say that the only positive side they got is their WONDERFUL LITERATURE,,
Second one was the beginning of Islamic period starting with presence of their prophet first then after his death The Caliphate was followed and as still in the same period this later stayed only for 29 years and 7 months during which 4 main Calipha ruled the Arabian world who was still in his first growing steps,,, those ARE THE REAL CALIPHA we got,,,, in this period people were totally interested in religion and opening countries only,, literature had been developed but not very much as they were only interested in their Holy Book and studying it,,,,
Anyway here we can find the Arabian So interested and practicing their religion PERFECTLY if even the word could be fair for the description,,, ABSOLUTLY NO ALCOHOLS, NO free relationships with women except wives ,, NO SLAVERY,, no Hareem as much as they can because the later caused many troubles at first so Calipha told people to reduce it gradually till at the end it vanish,,, they ruled from Saudi,
Third stage was somehow the beginning of changes in everything gradually transforming the Islamic period to general Arabian ,, this one called Al khilafa (the caliphate) ALOMAWYA (=Umayyad) , ruled by the family called Omawyon,,, as you see now the ruling become limited in family boundaries so that if Calipha died his son took his place directly which was not allowed in Islam and the previous periods,, people began to get a little bit loosening towards religion but still somehow as the previous stage too,, literature didn’t really developed then,,, it stayed for 88 years and the capital (where the Calipha lived)was Damascus in Syria,
Fourth one (the most important to our thread)
is called Al khilafa ALAABASYA (= Abbasid) , capital was Baghdad – Yeah within it our show story took place ;D ;D -, stayed for 508 years virtually but stayed more than that as only a name,, there are 200 years from them called the GOLDEN AGE,, in this period you can obviously notice the drop of the interest in religion gradually so obviously you can see people return to things was forbidden by religion as alcohols and the other things we had discussed before, many people had followed that way also other many remain as they should be,,,, the most affected range of people by those changes was the wealthy merchants as well as the poorest people and in the last stages of this period you can also see this happening in Calipha palaces and other princes, viziers as well,,
However there was an extraordinary boom in every other domains : scientific, medical, mathematical, architectures, physics, philosophy, pharmacy, literatures and so many others building the known Arabian civilization,
Last period was Alkhilafa AL OTHMANYA (= Ottoman),, capital was Constantinople stayed for 600 or so years but to be fair with you guys I’m afraid that my knowledge about it is too little, as we weren’t interested to study it except that pat concerning Egypt which is not our concern here ,, but generally what I know is first it’s way too complicated and the Caliphate was just a name,, even they didn’t have a Calipha but a Sultan,, and people weren’t happy by their ruling at all because they (the Othmanyin) weren’t interested in religion almost at all,, and they have also completely different cultures and traditions than the Arabian –as you all can see all the previous rulers were Arabian originated from the Middle East, Saudi’s desert, Iraq and El Sham) .
CONCLUSION: Sinbad was supposed to be living some when during the fourth period,, in The Golden Age,,, from our previous info we see that drinking alcohol and enjoying women company ,… were existing in this time but that doesn’t definitely mean that all people were like that,, no many MANY were not doing that and were practicing all their religious aspects as well as praying perfectly and sincerely,
And again as Arabian I’ll tell you that S1 shows the characters to be moderately like that but as the show wasn’t focus on their religious side but on fantasy as our Doubs mentioned on another thread so that wasn’t shown clearly,, few exceptions sometimes mentioned by Doubar (the chara) in the show,, as well as some slight behaviors from the crew now showed to be normal,, also if we added the fact of them being sailors (I mean in all cultures sailors are known by some behaviors if you know what I mean, may be like soldiers in long term wars, due to long rough time in open seas away from home/family/warmth)
Now no need to talk about S2 as I already had mentioned it,, but again I really doubt if Sinbad there was practicing any religious feature including praying,,,
And not to mention that I mostly never heard him saying the name Allah there,,, but things like By the Gods and others like this which definitely not matching with his religion at all,,
