Was Khei Dangerous? she thought. No, definitely not. Sure she hardly knew Khei but Khei had a sort of light around her. Thea looked at Khei's eyes. Yes, they were the greenest eyes she had ever seen. But what mystery lurked behind them? Khei's eyes were honest and that led her believe her answer. She sat down with a shaky breath. What sort of magical being had she let into in her home?
She swallowed, getting her muddle thoughts to ask a coherent question. "Without your bracers, what would you be?"

Khei sighed heavily as she stared down at her own reflection in the soup. The human reflection.. Sure it was herself but at the same time it was still nothing more than a blatant lie.
She didn't look up as she grasped mentally for the words she was looking for.
"For lack of a better term.. A beast.."

A beast. A beast. She had let a beast into her home. Her breath caught in her throat. A beast was dangerous. Did that mean Khei was dangerous? Her thoughts continued asking questions to herself. So many possibilities ran through her mind.
"A-Are you...dangerous?" Her voice was barely audible. "Do you have control over it?"

Khei smirked briefly at the thought of being unable to control herself before shaking her head.
"No more than any human is able to control their own impulses."

"Huh," was all she managed to say. So was the bracers that controlled her form?
"So is it the bracers that help? Are there others like you that need them?"

Khei shook her head.
"To my knowledge no one else like myself escaped with their lives.. The bracers allow me to live my life without being a freak amongst men."

Escape? Where did Khei "escape" from?
"Khei, tell me about yourself--about before you came to Baghdad."

Khei relaxed, if only a little, before sighing. not much choice.. may as well tell her everything..
"There's not much to tell really.. We lived in a simple little village, tilling the land and hunting for food. Things would be peaceful enough but this.. thing.. demon.. monster.. whatever you might call it would pay us visits and nearly destroy everything. Our elders and parents would simply clean up the mess and rebuild.. Only to wait for the next time everything would be destroyed at the whimsy of that horrid beast.."
Khei clenched her fist. Clearly she still held anger for whatever the beast was.
"The elders would have us just accept things as they were but the young among us, myself included, chose to take a stand and do something about the monster.. We launched our attack one day and succeeded in slaying the beast. I don't know how or why but the land shook and seemed to fall from under our feet.."
She shook her head.
"I haven't the slightest idea what became of anyone else but for my own part, found myself plunged into a great body of water where I swam for as long as I could. I never saw land bout found some wood to hang onto and just followed the current wherever it took me.. That's when my master had found me.. washed upon the shore of his island home.."

Anthea absorbed what Khei said. She wished she didn't push Khei into telling her her sad past. She felt guilty. Khei was alone. To think moments ago she thought Khei a danger to her. Part of her still wondered about Khei's other form. She wasn't too sure if she was ready to handle it. Khei was not of this world, yet, here she was. Thea resolved herself to not pester Khei with anymore questions.
"I'm sorry," Thea said, not just for making Khei confess her mysterious yet sad past but she was also actually sorry for what happened to her and her world. "Khei, if there is anything I could do, let me know." Thea yawned. "I'm might head up to bed soon, if you want to talk or would you like more soup, I would gladly do so."

Khei nodded then shook her head. SO far Thea had taken things very well. She still worried that she had simply come off as a crackpot.. For now she decided that Thea had a good idea at the moment. It was late and she was very tired.. Perhaps tomorrow would bring a new and better day..
"Thank you very much for the soup. It was really quite nice. I do think a good night's rest sounds about right."

Thea nodded. She took the empty soup bowls in the bucket across the room. She would leave them in there for the night to wash. She made her way to to the door. She turned around.
"Goodnight Khei," she said with a smile.
She made her way up stairs to her room. Thea let out a yawn. She hoped Khei would have a good nights sleep and that her herself would have a good one. The shocking revelations tonight stunned, scared and fascinated her.
She unlaced her boots, removed her coat, shirt and trousers, and dressed to her underclothes. Her bed was warm and comfy and she snuggled up. Sleep came easy that night.

Khei nodded and smiled, relieved that she could at least stay the night then bowed respectfully.
"Goodnight."
She followed Thea's lead, making her way to the room she'd picked out before and made herself comfortable, removing her vest and belt though she kept her shirt and trousers on. She was still too new to this place and wanted to keep ready in case she needed to take quick action.
She slept soundly for the first time in days. Much to her own surprise.
