Had a bad day? Let your steam out here. Just no swearing, and try not to use the real name of the person or the buisness that you are talking about.
So I will start...as most of you know, I am in Co op. Co op is a program which is offered at my highschool for students to get a real hands on sense of the working field.Students go to their chosen workplace and work for free, while gaining knowledge and skills which will provide them a good understanding and idea of whether or not this is good career in the future for them. How we pass this co op is completing all of the necessary hour. I have 360 hours to complete for my co op placement before the end of June.
Well I was orginally going to go to the Ontario Society for the Prevention of abuse against animals (Ospca) For my placement. I was going to go for animal care. I got to have a trial day. Which i knew i made some mistakes at the trial day but I thought overall i would be ok. I told the lady who trained me however that I could not reach the back of the cages for some of the cats. The lady said it was fine that she would diffently find other work for me to do.
Well, the week after my trial day, I got news that I did get accepted at the spca. I was really happy and I got everything signed, and on the following week i was supposed to start. That weekend i went to volunteer their as i normally do. I was told not to come to start the placement the next day because of schedualing issues. Which was fine by me. They would call me.
The next day came and they never called me. Infact my co op teachers called me to give me the news that I didnt get in at all. Even though I did. I was absolutly devastated. I knew why too. It wasnot because I made some mistakes it was because I was to short, and that they did not want to go out of there way to find me different work todo, or even put me in a team, where I would help someone else.
No they had to discriminate me, and say that underlinely say that i made too many mistakes. It was because I was too short. What probably ticks me off the most about this is that They never said a word to me, they had 2-3 weeks to contact me about this and they never did. They go out of their way to make sure that they dont discuss this to me personally.
Today I received word from my friend, from one of the employers there that they were terribly sorry that I didnt get in but when they saw that I couldnt reach the cages they knew that they could not hire me, but this is a buisness after all. It is obvously a very poorly run buisness if they cannot even different arrangements for a student which a short stature. I have found a new placement I work in Dog grooming, The boss at the new placement has made arrangements because of my short stature. She doesnt mind at all, that she needs to help me reach stuff.
