Oh wow, thanx for sharing Wind. I did indeed not know about these things (I've never kept a reptile though).

Thanks, that's good info...even though I don't own a reptile...the old school I worked at had a few in the science lab and I learned it there.

Doubar & Firouz: Thanks. This is sparty, the turtle who has a 13 inch shell. She is massive compared to other turtles. The little turtle ontop is just a baby, Probably about the same size as one you would get at a petstore. Sparty, is owned by the rescues owner Marc. (my sisters boyfriend)

Texas has GOT to make up its mind! Terribly windy days, up to 35-40 miles per hour winds, 150,000 acres of land, in the west, gone up in flames for the past few days, and in the east rain and hail!!!! AH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! And, I'm right smack in the middle of ALL 3!!!!!!!

I'm not exactly in the middle, but my small town is in the middle of the three.

My rant for the day...or rather it´s yesterday´s rant but anyways: there is a smoke detector outside on the corridor just outside my apartent door and on the ceiling just next to the wall that is my bedroom on the other side.
Aaanyways, it had been there the night before already, but Tuesday night around midnight there was this really loud, high pitched sound. i could just tell it was somewhere outside my flat, it sounded as if someone whacks a rubber shoe across tiles. Like "WHIPP!" but really insanely loud. And that in irregular intervals, sometimes shortly one after the other, sometimes ten minutes or so inbetween. Impossible to sleep, impossible to locate, really drove me nuts, also because I didn´t know what it was. so around1 I went outside to investigate and found it was the smoke detector but didn´t dare to deactivate it because i feared to trigger the alarm...at 1 am, not so fun...so i went back in and stuffed stuff into my ears so I could finally sleep. And in the morning i took the batteries out and it stopped. ARGH

Oh, dear. I know what that's like. xD I have such a thing in my flat, but stupid me didn't know how it would sound like when the battery runs low. So the first time it happened I was really close to going insane because I knew the sound came from somewhere in my flat, only I couldn't figure out where from (just why I didn't think of the smoke detector remains a mystery to me >_> ). Took me half a day to finally realize it was that thing. xD
P.S.: The sound wasn't *that* loud though.
