It was a beautiful, sunny day. Just perfect for a little trip to forest in order to practise archery skills. Caipra was that kind and she had agreed to stay with little Aniel and keep her eye on the tavern. Kriss put on her brown, leather dress, took her bow and the quiver with the arrows. She also decided to take a dagger with her in case she met some poachers.
The archer walked along a path in the forest. She exactly knew it becaue she visited that place very often. Without any problems she found the tree which she used as a target.
Kriss took one arrow and slowly drew her bown when suddenly she heard somthing anxious...

The boat arrived early this morning in the port of Basra. Once the bridge was lowered, Kahlan went down and walked toward the forest, a hood covering her face. She did not want to face the crowd yet. People would ask where she came from and why she came here, and Kahlan did not want to answer these questions for now. She walked for nearly an hour in the forest when she stopped to rest. She sat on a tree and ate some fruit that was harvested on her way. Kahlan thought about what she was going to do now that she was here. She never left Galea until today and now she found herself in a city where she knew nobody. She was nothing here. Princess Kahlan had disappeared when she was mounted on the boat. Kahlan thought back, with sadness, of her hometown when suddenly, she heard noises. She looked up and saw ten men getting right on her. Kahlan recognized them immediately, Marek's men. They had followed her. But why did they not attacked her on the boat? Kahlan realized her mistake then. If she had stayed in town, Marek's men would have never dare to attack her in the middle of hundreds of witnesses. But here they were alone. Even if she kept her daggers with her, they were too numerous for her to confront alone. Frightened, she began to run. She was trying to avoid obstacles while the men were dangerously getting closer to her. But suddenly, she tripped on a branch and fell, uttering a faint cry. She turned around, dropping her hood who revealed her face, and saw, helplessly, Marek's men approaching.

Kriss looked around and with the first time she did not see anything, but when she looked around once agian, she saw a running woman and the men who chased her. She didn't know these people. They were not from Basra. That was not the natural scene in this forest. "What the..." The archer murmured. She quickly picked up all her things and went after them. She tried to be almost invisible and with the good effect. When she finally cought them, the woman was laying, she was helpless and the men were going to kill her. Kriss who was hidden by the tree, watched whole situation and she kewn, that only she could help this woman then. The brunette drew her bow, while one of men was about to kill the laying lady. Kriss aimed as always, with the big perfection...

The men were now all in front of Kahlan. One of them approached her and a wide smile appeared on his disgusting face while he said "Marek will be glad to hang your beautiful head next to your father's one". He unsheathed his sword and prepared to hit. No one could help her, Kahlan knew it. Invaded by terror, she closed her eyes and thought of her father and everything she loved. A tear rolled down her cheek as she awaited the fatal blow.

One of men unsheathed his sword and prepared to hit, in the same moment Kriss picked off the arrow. Her shot was just perfect, through his neck. The dead man fell on the ground. That saved the woman. Everyone looked at the archer "Hello!!!" She said with the irony. She knew it was like putting a hand to the hive or waking up the sleeping bear. She had been in the similar or even much worse situations, many times before. She felt no fear. It seemed to be a not big deal for Kriss de Valnor.

Kahlan heard a whistle in the air then the moaning of a man. She opened her eyes just to see the man with the sword collapse, an arrow stuck in his neck. She turned her head at the same time as the other men to see whence the attack came from. The woman who had shot the arrow seemed very confident. She just had defied 9 gunmen to blow, then she didn't even know the identity of the one she had just saved. While Marek's men were moving toward the archer, determined to kill her, Kahlan got up and catched her daggers, hidden in her boots, ready to fight.

The men were moving upright at Kriss. Before they were close enough to pose any danger for her, she had shot with her bow one more guy. Then she quickly caught her dagger and received with it the hit of the sword of her enemy...

...Kahlan ran toward the men who were about to attack the archer. When she arrived close to them, one of them turned around. But Kahlan cut his throat with one of her daggers before he could react and dodged the sword of another man by stooping...

...Kriss resisted the sword's blow really effectively. Even if her dagger was much smaller than the sword. She kicked the aggressor into the knees, blowing him down. Then she hit him with her dagger through his chest, still keeping the bow in her left hand.

...Still lowered, Kahlan planted her dagger in the belly of the man and watched him fell, while she rose up. Then she looked up and saw a men about to hit the archer. The woman was hitting a man and was still holding her bow in the other one. Kahlan took one of her daggers and threw it toward the man. The dagger landed right in the man's chest...

When Kriss was taking out her dagger from man's chest the other one fell on the ground very close to her. She rised her eyes and found out that the woman she saved had thrown her dagger toward him. The archer noded at the stranger lady while the another man attacked her. She droped the dagger, put her bow on the attacker's neck, brought him to his knees and broke his nape using the bow...

...Kahlan nodded back to the archer and she was surprised by a man who catched her wrists and pushed her toward a tree. The shock made her drop her second dagger. She forgot about the pain she felt because of the shock and, with her knee, she hit the man in his chest and then in his head. He fell while Kahlan grabbed her dagger and struck him a fatal blow...

There were just only two of men still alive. They seemed to be more concerned at that woman. Kriss took advantage of it, drew her bow and shot one of them. The other one turned around and moved on toward the archer. She drew her bow once again....

...Kahlan saw the two last men getting closer to her. One of them suddenly fell dead, hit by one of the archer's arrows and the last one turned back toward the woman. Decided to die as a soldier and not as a coward, he brandished his sword and rushed over the archer. Kahlan ran fast to him, took her dagger with her two hands and hit the man on his back...

Exactly in the same moment when the stranger woman hit the man on his back, Kriss' arrow hit his chest. The last one fell dead. The archer lowered her bown and looked around. Whole place was in blood, just like Kriss' hands and dagger. Her breathe was very fast and nervous. She looked at the woman and asked "Are you okay?"
