*thinks that any teacher who refers to any kind of punishment when students make mistakes isn´t worth his money*

@doubar: yeah but he never did. when i have a mistake, and he declares that he will punish me. i get up and tell him that i want that to be away from my colleague's because that hurts my pride.then he looks at me and smiles and then let me go ;D he used to punish us to learn from our mistakes . but first he teaches us our mistakes and how we should solute it correctly. then he punish us to not forget this experience

alex: Well explaining the mistakes and showing how to avoid them is totally fine and needed, but punishing ... sorry, dear, but that I find totally wrong.

he used to punish us to learn from our mistakes . but first he teaches us our mistakes and how we should solute it correctly. then he punish us to not forget this experience That´s still horrible. I have made the experience that punishment causes fear and when students fear you they will be too scared to raise their hand to ask a question or ask you to explain something again. And thus they can not learn. For me one of the first things I tell students when I take over a new class is that it is ALWAYS okay to ask for more explanation and that it is NEVER a problem to make a mistake. For me, that´s the only way to learn well. In a fearless environment.

@sinbad: he doesn't use to punish us for every big and small. i think that his way though doesn't hinder us from asking, understanding and loving the Math in this year. i don't know how actually

alex: Really! If there is any physical punishment, the teacher can get fired, here. As a student, you are supposed to make mistakes. The only punishment for your mistakes is a lower grade.

@sarah: i can say that i prefer Punishment over having lower grade . but if you read my post you will notice that i refuse both of them being punished and having lower grades

You either get a lower grade or punishment. Don't you get grades on tests? And if you make mistake on the test, you get a lower grade.
