Now that's true indeed. So maybe it was the script-writers who decided? Although it still seemed a bit forced what with her having gone off to train her magic... *shrugs*

Was rewatching this ep again today and for was looking at the skeleton warriors and for the first time I really thought about the horned helmets some of them are wearing...so are they dead vikings? I wonder what viking mercenaries were doing so far from home. Also, I wonder how long ago that army that Rumina slayed attacked.

Heya guys. It's been quite a while I've been on here (@doubar: Heya Doubs! *hugs*:-D), but couldn't help but chip in on the conversation. tzigone: I thought the same when I initially saw the skeleton warriors--that there were viking mercenaries :-)
It is interesting. Doubt I'll ever figure on when/why they attacked Rumina, though. Didn't end well for them.
Hope you'll chime in on other ep discussions, too. I'm going to get back to them as soon as I have home internet again (just moved - not hooked up yet).
I would say that this could really be Vikings. If the suppose setting of this TV series is about 10 century, how we speculated in another topic, the raids of Vikings took place before this date. I think that some raids were mentioned in different episodes (Little Miss Magic and Return of the Ronin) although it was not mentioned who was an attacker. If I remember correctly, we could see these skeleton warriors in Little Miss Magic as well, so we can assume that they invaded this island and later died there under unclear circumstances, Rumina could use them as her servants after their death, maybe she did not have anything common with their deaths. Maybe Vikings decided to attack a next island and they unfortunately chose the island of Rumina. They were not able to deal with this demon Gilling and Rumina would be a lot of harder nut, so I can definitely imagine her being a winner of this fight.
Or simply the authors did not suppose that someone will be examining this point more deeply.
Well, as for how they came into Rumina's service, IDK, but it is historical fact that the Vikings travelled far and wide to pillage, plunder, possess anything they could get their hands on. They were also VERY successful merchants, traders, and like all large countries/kingdoms with armies, soldiers who aren't satisfied with their lot in the army go an become mercenaries for the highest employer.
I thought they were they army raised against Rumina, not in her service? Didn't she say "soldiers of fortune that I did slay"? Of course, if she thought they'd be more effective dead than alive, then she'd totally kill her own army.
My only issue with them being there is that Sinbad was unfamiliar with Norsemen, implying they didn't hang out in this area. But then, Firouz knew them, so it does work. Especially if they made their reputation in the area when he was "disappeared". Unlike manche, I think the show should be set no later than very late 8th century, because Maeve doesn't know Vikings, and the Viking age in Ireland started in the early 9th century. But that's all very speculative - they weren't exactly consistent on details, as is detailed extensively in this thread
Well, like the spell said soldiers of fortune....perhaps they left their homes for their fortune? Maybe if there is ever a remake, they will be much more historically accurate?

Probably you are right, if this was in the original. There was not mentioned anything about their slaying in our dubbing, so I have not heard about it so far.
One of those plotholes that wasn't dealt with...I guess that's why its kind of given the label of B-rated, huh?
Lol, that and the crappy monsters that popped up here and there. ;D
On another note though: I agree and wondered about the same. It was indeed stated by Scratch that he needed the four elements to free himself from the spell that kept him bound and by destroying the skulls the crew prevented him from taking them over. It remained a mystery to me though why the cave collapsed.
I have seen something similar in different TV series for example Stargate SG1 where was a main villain of the Earth, Anubis, he was appearing there in the progress of 4 seasons (from 5 to 8) and he was imprisoned at the beginning of the eight season on an ice planet without any chance to escape, despite of this he appeared in final episodes of this season without any explanation how he escaped. Watchers could only guess how this happened. So, I would not blame screenwriters of Sinbad for this. I welcomed Scratch back in game.
This ending scene between Maeve and Sinbad is one of my favourite from the whole TV series, maybe even the most favourite. So touching, so beautiful and so sad at the same time. The greatest scene between this amazing couple. Even without the opening of the second season it really looks as a goodbye scene for Maeve. I miss her, the old Sinbad and their relationship so much in the second season...

I really like that scene, too. And I like Sinbad committing to helping her. And that now we know he knows Dermott is not really a hawk.
I can only second you two! It's one of AoS's most beautiful scenes, so deep and emotional. And like Manche said, it feels so much like a goodbye already. Breaks my heart everytime I watch it, and at the same time it also makes me love those two so much!
