Caipra was listening to Maeve and Ziad talking without saying anything. but the situation was becoming complicated. Maeve was really disturbed by this new law, as the old sorceress was herself when she heard it for the first time. She perfectly remembered that moment. It happened one day after the Nomad had left Basra, a year ago. the guards had spread the news very quickly, by putting posters all around the city. When Caipra had seen one of them, she immediatly went to the castle, as many other curious habitants. Omar had made a speech, not long, but very precise, saying that magic was something evil and dangerous and that he was doing this only to protect his kingdom. Unfortunately, Caipra knew there was no way she could convice him of the contrary. Soon, lots of people left the city, mostly by fear. But Caipra decided to stay. Because it was her home. Because she had nowhere else to go. And because she felt that someday, things will change again, and she'd be here for that.
All this happened because of Rumina of course. There was nothing or noone more evil than her and her dead father. She just had to say her name to Maeve, and the redhead would understand everything immediatly. But it was not the right time. Not today, because only one name could bring all the bad memories back in an instant, and she refused that.
She promised herself to explain her everything later, but for now, she simply said, before Ziad could answer. "Oh you know, some regrettable accident that happened and scared the Caliph. I'm sure he will realize soon that he made a mistake. Everyone needs a bit of good magic in his life. Am I wrong?" she asked Ziad with a smirk.

Caipra was waiting for that question. Maeve had to be aware of the new laws in Basra, to avoid any other accident. "It happened that Omar had suddenly decided that magic was too dangerous to be tolerated in his city. So he banned it." The old sorceress didn't mentionned that Rumina was the source of this new law. It was probably the last name the red-head wanted to hear at the moment.
As she talked, she saw Kadeem and Amir leaving the guard's place. Caipra felt suddenly reassured. Everything seemed fine, or Ziad would have probably called her again. She looked toward Maeve again and added. "I need you to be aware of that. If anything should happen that imply magic, I'm not sure I could do anything to help." She smiled at the young sorceress and turned away once again, hearing someone coming. "Ah, the other guard is here, Ziad shouldn't be long now." Indeed, the chief's guard left the place a few moment after.

As Caipra followed Maeve, she hoped that it wouldn't take too long to the other guard to arrive, but at the same time, the guys in the guard's place were still asleep, and the old lady would have felt better if Ziad had still been there when they would wake up. But she guessed that the chief's guard would have thought about that too, and that he already planned something. So she trusted him for now and she would talk about it again later.
The streets were very calm. People were slowly waking up one by one. For them another normal day was starting, while for Caipra, Maeve and the Nomad's crew waiting in the tavern, this day would change everything.
Caipra felt quite surprised when she heard Maeve's question. She would have expected her to ask a lot of things, the simple fact that she could ask how She had been didn't even cross her mind. However, it didn't take long to the old sorceress to notice that this was not the only question pending in the red-head's mind. In a way, she was happy that Maeve didn't say anything about Sinbad yet. The wise lady wanted to let the surprised be full, for both of them, because she knew that this moment would be very important for them, and she didn't have the right to spoil this intense reunion.
So she simply smiled back and answered her friend. "Oh, me? I've been fine. I'm still fine, actually. I'm quite an old woman now, you know. the days go by and look the same. Though some things have changed here since the last time you came, and I had to adapt myself."

Caipra nodded to Ziad. "Of course, we'll wait you outside. Thank you Ziad" She said with a smile. She looked at Maeve and invited her to leave the guard's place.
The old sorceress noticed that her behavour was confusing the redhead a bit, but that was only because she had no idea why she was suddenly so impatient to go the tavern. And after all, for now the most important was not to know how Maeve appeared in Basra. No, the most important is that she was finally back home.
She followed Maeve outside and waited for the chief's guard to join them.

Caipra suddenly looked up toward Ziad. All her thoughts concerning magic, veil, or anything related had vanished from her mind. *the tavern...Sinbad* How could she have forgotten about this. Sinbad and his crew were in Basra too. The old sorceress didn't know if this was fate, destiny, or a pure hazard, but the young sorceress was closer to her friends than she could even imagine...and Caipra decided that she would not keep them separated any longer.
"Of course the tavern!" She said as she stood up, looking in turn at Maeve and Ziad. "I mean, we know a very good tavern were you could have some rest, and maybe eat something. You must be so tired, right now, and this conversation about the veil is leading nowhere. So I think we should forget about it for a while and go get some...breakfast."
She smiled and looked at Ziad, with an understanding glance. There was no doubts that they were talking about the same tavern, though he had no idea that the young woman who had just popped in his office had some link with Sinbad.
"Are you coming with us?" She asked the guard, having already a slight idea of his answer.

Maeve got a point there...a simple, though powerful, forgetting spell couldn't be the only thing responsible for the broken veil. That would be too *easy*... "I...I don't know..." Caipra just said, now confused. As she walked a few steps back to sit down, she had a little thrill, as if an airflow had just passed in the room, though every window was closed. The old sorceress didn't pay any attention to it and simply added: "Rumina's henchman had been able to open it, 2 years ago, to send my husband in the Realm, hasn't he?" She tried to explain. *if one was able to send someone in the realm, why nobody would be able to get someone out?* She put one of her elbow on the table, leaned her forehead against her hand and closed her eyes. She thought she would have seen everything in her life already, but magic was really unpredictable.

The silence was too long.Caipra was repeating Ziad's answer in her head. She wanted to say something but she was out of words. She still couldn't believe what had happened. Maeve's voice finally broke the silence after a moment. The old sorceress realized then that the redhead had no idea of what was going on. She turned around to face the young sorceress again, and started to explain: "There was an accident in town tonight and I had to cast a spell on those men to erase their memories."She said, showing the men sleeping around them. Of course, the story was far longer than that, but Maeve didn't need all the details for now "But I had to cast a quite powerful one to make sure it would work on all of them" she added. "And something happened during the incantation, something so powerful that it weakens me for a moment. I'm sure it has nothing to do with the forgetting spell, so I think..." Caipra took a deep breath. She was about to say out loud what seemed impossible a few minutes ago. "I think I might be the one who broke the veil."

As soon as Maeve had had said that DimDim was alright, Caipra had breathed deeply, already relieved. She had a twinge of regret, knowing that he was still in the Realm, but at least he was still part of this world, if she could say so.
She had never planned to make the redhead feel guilty by asking that, and seeing how uncomfortable she seemed to be, The old sorceress couldn't help but make everything to reassure her...being the strongest one once again. "You, telling me that he's alright is already a better news that I could have expected. You don't have to feel uncomfortable for anything." She smiled to the young sorceress and added. "I know my husband, he doesn't give up so easily, he always find a way to get himself out of the worst situations, and I'm sure he already knows that the veil has been broken, which give him more hope knowing that he can surely be broken again, just like I think it. Nobody had been prepared to it today when..."
Caipra suddenly stopped in the middle of her speech. Something she hadn't realized before had just popped up in her mind. The tear in the veil had happened precisely at the same moment she had cast a spell to the men, a few hours ago. Did the strange feeling she had felt back then could have a connection with it? That would then mean that....
Caipra, turned to look at Ziad, hoping he could help her in any way. He had been here since the beginning, he had seen everything, and Maeve had appeared in his office. "When it happened" she whispered, as if she was finishing her previous sentence before adding in the same tone. "Could that be possible?"

Nobody knew what happened in fact. And it was a very weird moment for Caipra. The old sorceress never showed her emotions in front of people. She usually kept a kind of neutral mask on her face. She had to...People used to relied in her so much that she had to remain strong for them. But today, the shock had been so intense that this mask had fallen down in a second.
He would be laughing right now if he was here...if...
Of course, Caipra knew that DimDim wasn't here, otherwise she would have felt his power from miles away. That's what brought her to ask Maeve. "What about my husband? Is he...?"
Was he what? Fine? Still out there? Dead? She didn't even dare to make any supposition. She just hoped that she would not hear what she was most scared of.

When Maeve reached Caipra, the old sorceress took her in her arms, slowly, as if she was holding something very fragile that she was afraid to break. At this moment, there was only the two sorceresses in this place, enjoying this moment. They had even forgotten Ziad, who was probably waiting for some answers, but the wise lady would deal with him in a moment.
Caipra stepped back and put her hand on the redhead's cheek. So many thoughts were going through Caipra's mind. She didn't know where to start. "I can't believe it...How is that possible?" she finally asked, not only to Maeve, but to herself as well.
There was a lot of emotion in Caipra's voice. First because Maeve was back, of course, but also because she had never thought that she would see the powerful magic of the hidden realm being broken one day.

Caipra watched Kriss and Ziad without saying anything, but still with this amusing smile on her face. In a way, she was happy of this situation. They were the only people in Basra who knew everything about her, including her abilities with magic, and she was glad to see that they were not ennemies. She couldn't tell for sure what was going on between those two. Maybe the imagination of the old lady was going too far, but at least she really thought the two of them could make a great couple...but that was not hers to decide.
For now, she was standing in front of her two friends who were having dinner together, and the wise sorceress knew it was time for her to disappear. "I won't retain you any longer." She said. "I hope you'll have a nice evening. And thank you for the Scarf, Kriss." She made a sign of her head to Ziad, made a wink to Kriss and slowly walked toward the bar.
