*raises hand about to be smartass* I think it depends on what you see as "the world" in Sinbad´s time America and Australia and wide regions of the oceans and the rest of the world were still not in the picture so basically the seas around the mediterranian were referred to as the "seas of the world" me thinketh. And those might have counted up to 7.
