I thought I start a thread for the fics we don't intend to write, but still have ideas in our head about. And start with a few of my own. Please contribute yours.
Is Sinbad a daddy? - a woman arrives with a child that might be Sinbad's and would have been conceived during his missing two years. Now, in my head, the child belonged to another rainbow-bracelet wearer whose memories were affected a little differently than Sinbad's - mostly because she was already pregnant when her event happened and the powers that did this wanted her to remember her child. And it's am aunt who currently has the child who thinks it might be Sinbad's (because her sister told her to take the child to him when big-scary-baddie-that-she's-fighting showed up). But Sinbad really has no clue and it bothers him. Things get sorted in the end, but it really increases his motivation for finding out where he was and what he was doing in the time he doesn't remember.
Dermott in a funk - basically Dermott's sad and frustrated because Maeve is the only person he can really communicate with. It's lonely.
Doubar and Kula - from "The Beast Within"; I hope I heard her name correctly. They are so cute, so a story featuring them. Friends, friends and occasional lovers, friends who become lovers, whatever. Just the two of them interacting more. She's a strong woman, and can handle her troubles herself, but when local thugs give her trouble when Doubar is there, they'll regret it.

I though about some ideas for the stories about Sinbad some years ago. It was not anything original, I gained my inspiration from different TV series for them but I never started to write them because I did not know how to end them, how to create the whole structure of the stories and the next things. There are more about adventures, it was created at time where I had my longer pause in watching of Sinbad and I was fascinated by action and adventurous movies. I would not wish to write something like this in the present time. If you have the interest to know my ideas, I will write there.
1. During the visit of an island for trade, the crew bought some goods. The king of this island gave them among these goods a cursed stone which caused a lot of troubles in his kingdom and he wanted to rid of it. Firouz touched it as the first person and he had a black mark on his palm for a moment. He was not suspicious of anything he thought that it was only an optical illusion and he did not say anything to the others. Sinbad touched the stone as the second and Maeve immediately after them. The black mark reminded her something so she went to look into her books and she advised the rest of the crew not to touch the stone. She found that this stone was property of the original people of this kingdom and that everyone who touches this stone will change into an animal after some time. Rongar accidentally touched this stone as well before she returned with her finding. Doubar and Bryn who did not touch the stone let the ship into the kingdom to find some help. All four affected members of the crew started to feel features of animals in their behaviour slowly. Firouz had the taste to fly during watching Dermott, Maeve and Sinbad behaved like aggressive beasts and the crew was forced to imprison them, Rongar started to jump all around the ship and he developed a big predilection in bananas. (A big inspiration of one episode of The Lost World, I willingly admit it.)
2. Bryn and Firouz visited an old cave on one island. There was imprisoned a demon and they released him. He entered into the body of Bryn and he wanted to get into a sacred temple on the other side of the island where was hidden a powerful source of energy which would give him power to control time, death, life, weather, all elements, behaviour of people and the next things. Bryn stunned Firouz and she went to the tour to the temple. The rest of the crew started to follow her. There were a lot of traps along the way to the temple, but the demon was able to avoid them thanks his power and the power of Bryn as well. The crew was endangered during the way to the temple and Maeve, Rongar and Sinbad were killed during the way (Maeve on an old bridge which slackened under their weight, she managed to get Rongar who was still on the bridge with her out of it but immediately after that the bridge fell, Rongar was killed by a stone giant and Sinbad was hit by the cursed sword of the guardians of the temple (demon in Bryn used a spell which made him invisible before these guards because their sword could kill him when he had not taken over the power of this source of energy so far) and Doubar with Firouz were able to get one of these swords. They managed to get into the temple. The demon was surprised by their presence and he did not manage to make invisible immediately and he was forced to defend himself before Doubar. Firouz used this fight and he got to this mysterious source of energy. He gained his power and he had two wishes: to return back his beloved friends and imprison the demon forever. There opened the gate of the world of dead and all three dead friends returned back to them. The demon was sucked from the body of Bryn and imprisoned in this mysterious source. The crew decided to destroy this source forever because nobody should have such power. They did it.
3. Turock gained power over one kingdom. He used a spell which forces everyone to do everything what he wants and he took over all people in the kingdom. The crew was lured there. Sinbad was separated from the others and captured by Turock. The crew was enchanted by this spell and they became his next servants. Turock prepared a horrible revenge for him. He will enter into the forest which he can not leave and he will be hunted... by his enchanted crew. If the crew manages to kill him, Turock will force them commit suicide after that. Turock is sure that there is not a way how Sinbad could avoid death. He is there with one of the citizens of the city Jalen who was under the control of the spell as well but this influence on him disappeared for an unknown reason. (He did not remember how this happened.) Sinbad tried to prevent before attacks of his friends and find the way how to return them back. During the attacks, Maeve and Bryn were able to overcome this spell and return to the normal and they tried to find a way how to break the spell by the others.

I had a few over the years....here is one....
DimDim seemed to have multiple students in multiple kingdoms all at the same time. The students know of one another, but have never met. We never get to see is he knows how to magic himself somewhere like Rumina misted herself places, but I had to think he had the ability. What if, Maeve/Bryn/OC student, while attempting to use the shrinking spell on something, get's interrupted or startled and the spell turns on them. They are shrunk and since DimDim is leaving, decide to tag along in DimDim's travel bag. After a while the other student becomes aware of the shrunken student, and tries to undo the spell. They can either succeed or need to have DimDim's help. Either way, 2 students get to meet and talk about what made them become DimDim's students.

Was that in season 2? I don't remember season 2. I don't remember any previous students in season 1 - though Scratch claimed it, of course. Could be interesting to meet others who learned from him.
Certainly seems feasible to me.
Would be a good opportunity to explore Dim-Dim's nature (or, at least how his students perceived his nature). Do they perceive him as someone helping them (Maeve might, with her quest being what it is) or is it a paid job or did they have opportunities with other teachers or whatnot? Lot of ways it could go for OCs. How much loyalty do his other students have, etc.?

Well, I was going with the idea that Sinbad and Doubar were his wards/students growing up. We don't know exactly when Maeve became his student, but from past discussions most people thought she had been there for at least 3-5 years. Since she wasn't a natural born like Rumina/Bryn, it took a long time for her to touch and harness her powers of fire. We know Sinbad and Doubar were there with DimDim for years, but they were in Baghdad. Firouz seems to be acquainted with him at least, if not a student of some kind, and he was Prince Casib's tutor too. Very recently too due to their reunion. If he had so many over the years, most of whom we see are only men, there had to be more ladies somewhere.
And yes, analyzing DimDim's character would be a interesting fiction, believe me. Plus, when you add in his wife who lives in Basra, where the picked up Firouz in the beginning. Plus, any of HER students....

Oh, definitely. Wasn't Sinbad supposed to go right home and help Dim-Dim with chores? They weren't magic students, of course, but students nonetheless. I say a few months at most. She was only just getting the theories/practical lessons then, and she just improved so dramatically in the year without a teacher, and only access to books. But, of course, we were never told, so we can't know an exact time frame. We almost do know that it was probably less than two years though, because Dim-Dim was adviser to the Caliph and in Baghdad two years ago, and Sinbad (who was "lost" two years before the first episode) thought Dim-Dim was still there and he and Doubar never met Maeve there. Unless you want to go with Dim-Dim teleporting back-and-forth between Baghdad and the Island, I guess. Yes, and again in the non-magical sense. You know, the more I read your post and think about it, the more I think just how much of a teacher Dim-Dim is. Teaching wasn't a rarity that happened by chance, but something he did a lot of, with various students, in both magical and non-magical fashion. True. Of course, we don't know if she kept students like Dim-Dim did. She might just be a sorceress and not a teacher - we have a lot of options there. And, as I've said before, I really like the idea that he and Caipra didn't fall in love and marry until after he was exiled from Baghdad (less than two years previous to series-start), thus explaining why Doubar and Sinbad, who have known him for 20+ years, don't know his wife. And then, he picked up Maeve as a student some time after that. Actually, since both Dim-Dim and Caipra have some ability to see the future (though not all of it), so I've speculated the poor newlyweds had to separate because one of them had a vision that it was important for Dim-Dim to teach Maeve. Of course, this may be completely incompatible with the story you have planned. And that's fine - variety is the spice of fiction, right?

I think that stories concentrated on characters are always a great idea. This show had a lot of interesting characters (not only in main roles), so take one of them and give him a deeper background is great. Dim Dym belongs to characters with the biggest potential definitely.

And can you imagine for example the set of stories centred on Talia? I think that it would be amazing to find more about her. Or Tetsu or Turhan could be interesting too and similar interesting characters are more. Or if we could see some events which were only mentioned in the TV series: for example the first meeting of our brothers with Scratch, Maeve's history with Rumina, Rongar and his expulsion from Bollnah... This show offers material for such many stories of different kinds.

This is a really old idea I and another author had like 10 years ago that never made it...
Since the show introduced the Greek Gods with Poseidon, how about Maeve's true mother being Hecate?
Background for this....the Siren's Song, after the adventure...
Maeve was sitting in her room, when Sinbad knocked and asked to come in.
She allowed it.
She asked him what he needed.
Hesitant, but needing to know, he asked why Poseidon seemed to know her and why she seemed to know him.
She watches him for a minute, and just as he was getting ready to dismiss it and leave, she opened her mouth and said, "It looked that way because I do know him and he knows me. In fact, he wished me to be his mistress for a time a few years ago."
He spun around and stared with his jaw hanging open.
She smirked and said, "What, did you think I was that innocent? You did compliment me when you stated you had, had better kisses before." And proceeds to tell him of her youth.
As a young lass of 13, she was told of her parentage and as all young demigods do, she goes to Greece and is trained by Chiron to be a hero. After five years of training, she goes on a quest with two other demigods, a child of Poseidon and a child of Apollo. The quest isn't really important, but it was on this quest where she ran into Poseidon and caught his attention because she was beautiful, spirited, and full of life, and during this quest she angered Zeus.
It was during this time, that Rumina arrived and started destroying her village. As a hero, she went to fight her, but Rumina was more skilled and had quicker skills. Persian magic is faster than Greek, you see. She managed to harm Rumina pretty severely though causing Rumina to cast a animal transformation spell, and Dermott got in the way. As Rumina escaped to heal, Maeve tried and tried and prayed to her mother. Only for her to inform her daughter that Rumina's spell had a God enforcing it and she could not remove it. Only she would be able too.
Poseidon offered to protect her from his brother in return for 'courting' her. She was flattered, but told him what her mother had told her about Zeus' curse and the requirements. He understood. She left her home and found Dim-Dim a year later. 14 months later, Sinbad and crew showed up.

Firouz: Now that's a fascinating idea! Poseidon's look is indeed rather puzzling. It seemed the he and Maeve knew each other, and the look was a bit flirtatious, too. That said, I like your idea. And Maeve being actually a demigod is something new.

Maeve being a demigoddess isn't exactly a NEW idea, but it wasn't very well explored. I recall maybe 3 other fictions that had her as a daughter of Aphrodite though.

A good idea with Maeve being a goddess from a part. She had the most interesting past from the whole TV series, followed by Rongar. I would like to read a story concentrated on one of them.
An idea for a story concentrated on Rongar. After his expulsion from Bollnah he travelled to different areas of the world in the company of his loyal bodyguard Mustapha who felt quilty that he was not able to help him when Ali Rashid and the people from Bollnah turned their backs on him. Rongar did not blame Mustapha from this situation and during the progress of years their ways separated, but they stayed in touch in next years. Rongar visited an island and there he met with a great fighter who knew a lot of different kinds of martial arts and he was searching for a student whom he could pass on his knowledge. Rongar became his student and this was the moment when he started to become a fighter who the crew met a few years after that.

A fic focusing on Rongar, this I like! He and Firouz are not really '3d'; meaning, their histories aren't really fleshed out. Rongar's becomes more 3d in Season 2, and some of Firouz' is fleshed out just a bit with him interacting with Velda. Maeve's wasn't really fleshed out either, but we had the back story of her and Dermott. If she had stayed Season 2 would have made her more even with Sinbad (by the backstory, I mean), but that didn't happen.
On the same note, Sinbad isn't as fleshed out as he could have been as the star. But we sure knew a heck of a lot more about him and Doubar than the others! LOL

Yes, I agree that bigger development would be possible for all main characters. We found more about Rongar in the season two; Maeve has created her own back-story on the page. We do not know so much about Firouz, we could learn more about his meeting with Velda, why he is afraid of fire and how he met with brothers for the first time and how he became a member of their crew for example. Bryn was a big mystery; we did not find almost anything about her origin in the TV series.
We know something about brothers, for example the loss of their parents, Sinbad and his relationship with Lea, travels with Adventurers and some of this could be developed more (for example I would appreciate a story where Adventurers appear, the most of them were sympathetic to me), there could appear their first meetings with some characters which we met in the show (Talia, Turhan). And I agree they could be fleshed out more, I like stories which explore characters more (in fact I think the most of episodes which were centred on a certain character were great in this show).
