This episode does not belong to my most favourite episodes, but i still consider to be quite a good episode with some nice moments.
The beginning scene on the board of the ship was funny, the presentation of a new invention could end badly for our dear scientist. And this humorous scene was quickly replaced by a dramatic situation where Maeve could show her powerful magic again. And it was funny how everyone who was looking through the magnoscope was not willing to tell the others what he saw.
I like Doubar's comment that they would need Rumina when Maeve did not seem to be very effective in her effort to escape the fire.
I like Firouz's role in the story, despite the fact that he was not able to find any medical solution he did not want to give up his effort to save the princess (as i mentioned in a comment to the beast of basra, it was really strange that he did not try to do the same thing for one of his closest friends). His doubts about magic were shown there in his arguments with the advisor.
The storyline with the crew was not bad, but i do not like the character of Sariya very much. But i like how she was able to make certain peace with Maeve at the end. And i like very much how Rongar came help to Maeve when she was endangered by the giant. The next example of their special friendship.
I did not really understand how it was possible that the king Shadbush did not recognize that his advisor was Vatek. He looked equally in both forms and Shadbush had known him for a longer time so he had to know his appearance very well. Did I miss something there?

This isn't exactly my fav episode either, but it does have some great scenes - namely the ones you already mentioned like the beginning and the end.
