The wooden door slowly closed rustling and leaving the tavern, its guests and all the rest behind them. However, it was a pity that there was not a possibility to leave the worries and problems of yesterday behind them as well and let them just disappear.
They could not just vanish but at least Kriss’ could make them wait a bit. She locked the door and put her son on the ground. Released from mother’s arms Aniel quickly toddled to get his toys. Kriss took a deep breath. Escape to her oasis was what the woman had needed, even if this oasis was only a little attic flat. Maybe it was cramped and a bit dusty, since she was not one of those overly conscious of perfect cleanliness women, but it was her own place. She even liked it, not felt like home, but liked it.
Still holding a mug of green tea in her hand Kriss sat by her dressing table. When she looked in the mirror, she saw on her face fatigue that she felt. She put down her mug and dipping a towel in a bowl of water, she wet the tired face. A cool water washed away the remnants of the sleep and brought a small relief.
Brushing her hair Kriss was thinking about what had happened yesterday, about the girl from the crew, about Caipra…
Why she didn’t explain anything?
Why she didn’t tell her more about them?
Why?
… about guard’s captain – Zaid
There is something about him…yes, there is…
Funny how much she attracted any kind of troubles no matter how much she was trying to avoid them.
The archer tied up her hair and took a sip of her tea. She felt a bit better. For sure calmer. Whatever would happen she was not alone, not at all. There was someone who will always be with her and love her. Someone who was bringing her a new energy everyday. She felt she needed that energy in this moment.
She smiled at her son and asked him, opening her arms
“Come here?”
The boy quickly ran to his mother, bringing her a wooden toy, a horse.
“It’s our Fural?” she pointed at the toy and asked her son.
Aniel nodded with a smile. Even if he could not speak, somehow Kriss always knows what he was “saying” to her. Their bond did not need the words.
“Yes, you can go to his stable today.”
Her words brought even bigger smile at boy’s face. She smiled back and in the same moment she heard some voices. She strained to hear better because she was not sure what it may be. Some fuss in the port, so early?
Her eyes turned at the window overlooking the streets. Strange feeling of anxiety came over her. Not that she feared but still her heart began to beat a little faster for no reason.
Fast though unsteadily, she walked toward the window. In these brief few seconds she imagined various scenes that could possibly take place there. She peered out from behind the veil. Her first thought was that this cannot be true picture. She closed her eyes in hope that when she open them again she will see something different. But it did not work. One thought crossed her mind
No…
