Stalkers

[Kriss]

Summary:
A young woman, Taryn, seeks Sinbad and crew's help in saving her village from the threat known only as the Stalkers. On route to her home, the crew finds the countryside and home devastated by some mysterious force. Firouz discovers some strange slimy secretions but before he can deduce where it came from, giant ants, the stalkers attack. Sinbad tries to drive the monsters off with exploding sticks as the crew herds the people of Taryn's village to the lake. Firouz explains that ants can't swin.

The monsters retreat and Sinbad, Bryn and Firouz go to question the scientist Naaupo who has settled on the island. Firouz tells the others that Naaupo was driven from Basra because of his monster-making experimentation. When Naaupo is confronted he admits that he created the giant ants and demonstrates how he can control them with a special whistle. Sinbad and the crew escape from Naaupo's home and head back toward Taryn's village.

Firouz explains that the only way to destroy the ants is to kill their queen. The only way to kill the queen is to find her in the labyrinth of tunnels running under the island. Firouz devises a plan to flood the tunnels and Sinbad volunteers to keep the ants underground. Sinbad enters the tunnel and dodges the ants and the onslaught of water. Doubar pulls him out of the tunnel just as the last of the ants were drowned.
