Name:
Bran
Meaning:
Raven {Welsh}
Outer appearance:
As his name suggests, Bran has black hair, with eyes so dark they appear black. He has a fair height for his age, though it is likely he has not finished growing into his full height. His thick, black hair is kept short, at the longest, only reaching a bit past his ear. His attire is varied; back home, before the destruction of his land, he had many outfits befitting his royal status, as well as other clothing more suitable for hunting, riding, and sailing. He always carries at least a dagger tucked in his belt, usually accompanied by his sword in its scabbard.
Strengths and skills:
Though capably trained in many areas of battle-craft, as a young teen, Bran's strength is with the sword -- particularly while astride a horse. He is a keen strategist, taught by many of the greatest minds in warfare his father could bring to teach him. He has shown himself to be a very capable ruler since his father's untimely death and knows the ins and outs of statecraft.
Character:
Bran has a keen sense of humor that made him notorious around the palace as a child, though he has since matured -- particularly after the responsibilities of the realm were placed upon his shoulders. He has not lost his humor, it is only that no longer does he have the time for the pranks he indulged in as a young boy. He is very responsible and mature for his age -- likely enough due to having to grow up extra quickly when his father died -- and would die to protect his people. Having failed to save them with the destruction of his island home, guilt gnaws continuously at him for not dying with the rest of his people. He has an intense sense of justice, but such is tempered by his equal sense of mercy.
Bio:
Bran was born to the royal family that ruled the island nation of Ynysig Ceffyl. Though born with every privilege a child could possibly want, he was taught from a young age the virtues of honesty, justice, mercy, and chivalry and has never forgotten them. His mother died while giving birth to a younger sister when he was eight years old. Grieving father and brother raised the girl in a loving environment, where she did not even realize that there was anything missing in her life. Unfortunately, Bran's father died when he was thirteen years old. Young as he was, however, he took to reigning with a maturity that was beyond his years. He was determined to rule well, to make his father proud. Life was peaceful on the island and all was prosperous, until one day four years later, the island was overthrown in a mere few hours.
Despite the chaos, Bran tried to gather as many of his people as possible into the ships in the harbor. When he could find no other survivors, he was forced to order the ship to set sail, so that they too would not perish. Worse still, a terrible storm rose up not more than two hours afterward, pummeling the ship until the sails were in useless tatters, the keel filling with water. Many, still in shock from what had happened to their once prosperous, happy home, were washed overboard, never to be seen again. With the ship irrepairable, Bran and the few survivors left got into the longboat in hopes of rowing to land. In the storm, however, they had been thrown far off course into the trackless ocean. And though they tried their hardest to find land, not a speck of dry land was to be found. Their food and water supplies quickly ran out, and one by one, the survivors perished of starvation. Bran is the only one left now, drifting alone on the ocean, waiting to die.
