Still she was searching – searching for the ones she didn’t know. Nothing but a name and this faint trace of magic she had, but she tried. Her spirit had interlaced the seas and every breath she took was a wave. The element she had become surrounded her and granted her access to the magic that lay within its depths.
She used it; used the timeless knowledge that was part of it. And she saw them as if they were living entities, wandering by while being on their way to their destiny.
All those many tracks. It was hard to keep them apart; hard to detect the one she was searching for. She had seen it better earlier, had felt the yet unrecognized but dark potential it held. Now it was weak, too weak almost to find. The ghost sighed silently at her still unsuccessful attempts, when suddenly something around her changed. In an instant her whole body tensed and unconsciously her soul disengaged from the waters to once again create the image of the human she had once been. Rising from the depths her eyes soon met the golden light of the sun as she left the seas that had become her home. Her head she turned while her mind was wide awake. Every fibre of her soul felt it; felt the shift. Something was happening – something that neither time nor space had anticipated to take place. Something no deity had ever planned to let happen.
Mala’s essence trembled as this unknown source of energy reached her. Although not being magic itself, the shift contained the same. It influenced its ways – and the foundations of this world.
“How can it be?”
The ghost’s voice lingered unheard the air; her knowledge trailing off in the cavity of this element. She felt a ripple in time and space; felt a new might intertwine with this world and for the shortest of moments Mala felt her own essence change. Her breath got caught in her lungs as she felt the power of beings that never before had been part of this world float through the elements. Mighty and old their spirits were; far beyond comprehension was their nature.
The ghost knelt down, touching the waters’ surface and feeling the tingling sensation it gave her. Something was happening - the unison of two worlds that were too different to exist together. And yet there was a bridge, something that connected the two; something that fate had not expected.
She knew the shift was not here; knew that what she felt was nothing but the echo of its existence. But clear and strong like the Northern drift she sensed it. She had no choice. Forgetting about the faint trace of magic she was searching, she followed it. Too mighty was its call, too special its source.
Melting into the seas again, Mala let her soul be taken away to follow the alien call of energy; not knowing that it would lead her to well known shores…
