It was another day. The skies were clear, and there was no sign of trouble. That was good news for Ziad, the chief guard of the western part of the city. Omar of Basra had ordered him to maintain peace in that part of the city. Following Omar's order, he stationed a guard every 100 feet around the city's perimeter and every 10000 square feet within the section. He often was seen alone and traveled everyday to communicate with his men.
"Well, seems like there will be little trouble, today. I think I will get a glass of ale before continuing on with my duties." He headed to the nearest tavern and stepped in.
It seemed rather quiet at the moment. Few people were in the tavern. He walked up to the front table where the most beautiful women was standing. This must be the owner, he thought. He gulped trying not to let his emotions get the better of him. Discipline. Maintain discipline, he told himself. He looked at the woman and smiled. "May I have a glass of ale, please?"

For Kriss it was another, boring day in the tavern. Aniel was playing with his toys in his corner and she was staying of the counter and cleaning it. She saw a man who walked up to her and placed an order. He also smiled to her but Kriss ignored it. Without saying anything she put the glass on the table next to the guest, took the bottle and poured the ale. Then she took a quickly look at her son and got back to cleaning.

Ziad blinked at the quick but rather cold movements of the woman. He looked at the glass she poured him and smiled. He then took the glass, nodded at thanks at the woman, and drank it. "Hm, good ale. I have to..........."

When Kriss heard man's words, she left the dwile, rolled her eyes, looked at him and before he finished his sentence she snaped at him "Are you talking to me?"

Ziad raised his eyebrow. "Actually, yes. I was talking about how good your ale is."

Kriss just rolled her eyes again. She hated this kind of guests. Usually their courtship were not selfless. They used to do it, when they had not enough money to pay their bills. However, the tavern's owner knew how to get along with them. This one did not look like a guy who had no money for the ale but still Kriss didn't like him. "If the ale is so good, why don't you shut up and take on it?" she asked with the sarcasm. "Besides, it is not my ale. I am the tavern's owner and I don't work in the mill of the ale" added

Again, another half insult. He was getting used to this. Ziad carved a grin on his face. "I thought the tavern's owner owns the ale. Anyway....." He drank up the ale. "Thank you for the ale." He smiled at her. 'Such a shame that such a beautiful woman has to be so feisty,' he thought to himself. "Oh......" he added, putting his hand in his pocket. He drew out two gold coins. "This is for the ale," he said, holding up one coin. "And this is for you," he exclaimed, holding up the other coin before placing both coins on the table infront of the woman. "Have a nice day. Call me if you need me." He winked at her then turned to leave.

The tavern's owner ignored man's previous words and did not even look at him but when she heard what he said about the pay she rolled her eyes again and squeezed the dwile. While the man was leaving, Kriss rised her head, looked at the coins at the table. She took the one for the ale and put it into the small casket. Next, she took the second one, looked at it then looked at the man who had made her so mad this day and throw the coin at him. "I don't need your baksheesh!"she said to him.

Ziad heard the woman's words and raised his eyebrow. He then felt the coin hit his back and drop to the floor. He looked at the coin and picked it up. He looked at the woman and carved a faint smile. He then gulped and took a deep breathe. He walked up to the woman and stared at her. "You're in a bad mood, today, aren't you?"

Kriss looked at the man, leaned with her hands on the counter and said "You have not seen me in a bad mood, yet"

Ziad smirked. "Oh, so you are not in a bad mood?" He leaned toward Kriss. His face was so close to hers he could kiss her. "You are a fiesty one, aren't you?" He grinned at her.

Kriss quickly moved back to get the right distance from the annoying guest. This man really got on her nerves. She took a glass with the ale and poured it out at his face. "And you are a audacious, aren't you?" she said ironically.

Ziad shut his eyes at Kriss splashed the ale on his face. He wiped his face with his hand. “Audacious? Me? Well, I am daring and adventurous. And I see I upset you. So sorry about that.” Ziad blows Kriss a kiss and turns around to leave again.

Kriss was too angry to say anything. She was just watching his leaving with the big rage in her eyes.

Ziad chuckled silently to himself as he left. But before he left, he turned around. “Forgot something.” He tossed the coin back to her. “It’s yours. Do whatever you want with it. Throw it in the trash if you wish.” He smirked, nodded at Kriss, and quickly left before the mad woman could do anything.
