Okay guys. Since some of us are on their way of writing their first fanfic ever, I thought that those of us who are more familiar with fanfic.net already should help the newbies a little. So, here for the start are some answers to things members of DL have been insecure about:
1) How do I adjust a story/chapter that I have already uploaded?
2) How do I update the story for new chapters?
3) How do I insert seperators in my fic (e.g. in order to speperate single scenes)?
1) How do I adjust chapters?
Start off at your login page and go to "Publish"
Then choose the Document Manager (where you have also uploaded your chapter/document)
Scroll down to the word document you want to edit and press "edit/preview"
The site then leads you to a page where you can edit the chapter in question: change sentences or correct mistakes and then save the changes.
Next step: Go back to "publish" and choose "my stories"
Press "edit" ...
and then go to "Content/Chapters"
Last step: replace the chapter with the document (I know it sounds weird since it's still the same document but fanfic net won't publish the edited version untill you haven't done this step [or least I made that experience]).
Et voila. ;D
Please note though: You can also do the changes in the word document on your PC; upload this version as a new document and then replace the chapter in question with this document.
2) How do I update my story?
Well, I'll use less pics now, since most of the steps you now already know.
First step: Upload the new chapter as a word document ("Publish" -> "Document manager" -> choose the document and upload it).
Second step: Prepare adding it to your story.
"Publish" -> "My Stories" -> "Edit" the story (similar to step 6 of my earlier explanations) -> Choose "Chapters/Content"
Third step: Add the new chapter
For this one simply choose the word document (right side) and add it [if you want you can give a title to the chapter (left side)].
3) How do I insert seperators?
Mostly tricks like "*****" or "......" don't work on fanfic.net, so in order to seperate certain scenes of a chapter you can either use a line of letters (like "AoSAoSAoS") or you can insert a seperator. For this you have to do the following:
First step: Open the respective document in the document manager. For this you have to click on:
"Publish" -> Document Manager (Upload) -> Press the "edit/preview" button which is on the right hand side of the respective document name. (see also: "How do I adjust chapters"?)
Second step: For inserting a seperator, with your courser choose the line/s in your document where you want to add it and press the greenly marked button:
Third step: Save the changes.
And that's it already.
