Bryn: Yes, they did it on purpose. It´s something that has cultish background. The Nasca which I mentioned before, did that too. And there are even people who drilled holes into their skulls for cultural reasons. To let the spirits in.

okay you told me to be confident that I'm not annoying any one and this is the result. take it or leave it *shrugs* ;D *Opens her mouth in disbelieve* *pauses the scene and looks at her opened-mouth face* this thread made me open my mouth astonishing a lot. I'm afraid it will be like that forever. back to the topic: how they do that to the women and why?

Bryn: As far as I know, small feet were considered a beauty ideal so they would simply wrap feet in very tightly and not allow them to grow any further. The feet by and by get deformed if you do that. Here is a link. It´s German but there are pictures of an old woman who shows what it looks like. It´s somewhat extreme, so be warned. tearsinside.foren-city.de/topic,1117,-kleine-fuesse-um-jeden-preis.html

*Opens her mouth in disbelieve* *pauses the scene and looks at her opened-mouth face* this thread made me open my mouth astonishing a lot. I'm afraid it will be like that forever. *chuckles* That reminds me of my story. ;D Quotes Rumina to Bryn, "Don't keep your mouth open too long, or a toad can jump in." ;D Well, small feet for women were desirable. And for how, they tied the toes back so the bones eventually broke.

@sinbad : Fascinating, i never heard about that two incidents before As I tend to respond when one of my students says something like that: "See? And it alsready pays off having gotten up this morning." ;D No, seriously, there are tons of interesting and bewildering facts out there.

*Looks around the already-opened thread blinks few time* Look at that! the thread reaches the fourth page ......we are unbelievable...I wanna see doubar's face ;D ;D *stares, eyes twitches, headdesks* Why haven't I been around yesterday, dear Lords? WHY? Nhaa, heh. You knew I would love this thread and I do! ;D *has had a look onto all the pics, sways* Too ... much ... beauty. *faints* Those pics all are AWSOME! Even though I have to admit I like those that show the remnants of Ancient Egypt most. Modern Egypt is beautiful, too ... but the Ancient one captured my heart and soul ... *squeals* I got that one as a poster hanging in my room above my desk. About the heads: *nods* Aya, there is the theory that is was seen as beautiful to have rather long heads and therefore they bound the heads of young childs (which I think would definitely be less cruel than binding feet because a kid's skull is still quite felxible). However, I wouldn't go so far and say that it has always been done. Most likely it's been a certain time in which this might have happened. The ancient kingdom lasted thousands of years - it's unlikely that such an ideal lasted that long. And you do not find such forms on every relief. Plus, in Tutanchamen's (I hope that's how he's being called in English) and his father's case scientists belief that both suffered from a disease as not only do their heads seems unusual long but also show their bodies signs of illness. The current theory number one is that they suffered from the Marfan-Syndrome. About Tutanchahmen's face: Aye, I have seen that one before. Love it. About the plane hieroglyph: Sorry, but cannot believe that one, too. It sounds too much like Stargate and stories like that. Instead I'd rather think that what Sinbad already said sounds more likely.
