Just like Kriss had told him, Doubar headed towards the corridor that was to be seen on the far side of the tavern; entered it and then followed the steps that lead upstairs. For a short moment the first mate felt his thoughts wander. The last couple of days had been so strange in a way. They had revealed so many things and had made many of the crew think about all what had happened not only lately but also in the past year. And when the big man recalled all what had happened this morning, he couldn’t help but get the feeling that the time of wonder and revelations wasn’t over yet…
Having finally reached the upper floor, Doubar stopped for a second and tried to make out where to go now. The corridor he had just entered expanded to the right, as well as to the left. Swiftly his eyes searched for a sign that could tell him which way to go and easily enough they spotted one at the wooden wall opposite to him. But right before he could set himself into motion, a strange sound suddenly startled him. Doubar frowned slightly as he tried to listen intently and make out what it could have been, but only silence answered his efforts. The big man shrugged and started to move when once again, that sound reached his ears. It was a strange one indeed. Something he couldn’t really sort in. And what was the strangest thing of all was that it made him feel bad. The little hairs on his arms raised and deep inside an all too well known feeling started to spread: the feeling that something here wasn’t right here.
Unconsciously the first mate felt his right hand fumble for the handle of his scimitar while slowly he moved to turn to the left side and follow that strange noise. Step after step he got closer to it. It was hard to make out where it exactly came from; hard to even describe it. It seemed to resemble a grumble sometimes while in the next moment it was more like a whisper or whirr. But out of all the things he noticed, one thing he was sure about: he got closer to it.
“Here it must be. Somewhere”, the sea bear mumbled while he could see he was about to reach the end of the corridor. There were only two doors near him and when he took a closer look at one of them, he noticed that a strange faint lilac light was shining through the little slit on the ground.
“This isn’t good at all”, Doubar half-whispered to himself before he raised his left hand to slowly open the door...
