Summary:
As Sinbad and his crew camp on the shore of an island, their beautiful but deadly nemesis, the sorceress Rumina secretly plans to taunt and kill them. While Maeve rides horse-back along the beach, Rumina magically causes her to fall off the horse and hit her head on the ground. Unable to regain her consciousness, she lies helpless as a giant crab, conjured by Rumina, comes crawling towards her. Just before she is about to be devoured, Dermott the hawk, awakens her with his squawk. She quickly whips up a fireball and destroys the crab. The fireball catches the attention of Sinbad and the others.
As they help the semi-conscious Maeve back to camp, a whirlwind created by Rumina begins to howl towards them along the beach. The group takes cover in the nearby forest while Maeve rests. In a clearing of the forest, they find a natural rock amphitheater. Before the ruins lies a boulder with an inscription that warns of danger to any mortal who trespasses on the land of the "Old Ones," for only they have power here.
As Rumina's whirlwind gets closer, the crew has no choice but to seek safety in the ruins. When Rumina pauses in her whirlwind to read the inscription, she suddenly spins out of control and tumbles to the ground. Maeve realizes she, too, can no longer use her magic. Seizing the opportunity to kill the now powerless Rumina, Maeve draws her sword and is about to strike when six ghostly figures bar their exit from the ruins. Sinbad realizes they must all work together to fight the power of these gods and calls for a truce between the sorceresses.
The group hears laughter and turns to find an old man watching them. He introduces himself as Reynard, the mortal slave of the "Old Ones," the ancient gods who ruled the earth before man arrived. Reynard explains that these gods waged a war against each other that nearly consumed them. Their power to hate is so great that it ties them to this small portion of Earth. When mortals trespass, their hatred emerges once again. Now that Sinbad and the others have defied their warning, the gods will whittle away at the group and eventually tear them apart.
Each sets out to find weapons to defend themselves against the gods. In their search, they come across their deepest fears. Sinbad finds himself falling into a surf and hears a voice reminding him of the sea that took his parents and first love. A waterspout nearly consumes him. Meanwhile, Rumina finds a mirror and is taunted by the reflection of an old bitter version of herself. Her screams jar Sinbad from his illusion. Rongar is trapped and must battle a group of Wind Warriors. As he escapes, he looks back to see that the warriors have disappeared and his dirks are stuck in the rocks. Nearby, Firouz is engulfed in a wall of flames. When Rongar arrives, he finds Firouz writhing in the dirt. A hand on Firouz' shoulder takes him out of his imaginary fire.
Maeve and Doubar separate. At the sound of a moan, they whirl around and face each other. But instead of Maeve, Doubar is now facing Fortaza, an evil man he killed years ago. Maeve faces the arrogant Rumina. The two begin to fight to the death. Just as they are about to kill each other, Sinbad and Rongar wake them from their illusions.
The group marches off to question Reynard. As they approach him, he points to six cowled figures moving towards them, swords drawn. The "Old Ones" decide they would rather fight two on two, choosing Sinbad and Maeve to go against their best. Moments later, the rest of the crew join in to help battle the "Old Ones", matching them move for move. Suddenly, Sinbad tells everyone to cease fighting. The "Old Ones" also stop, removing their hoods in the process. They are deadringers for Rumina and the crew! After Dermott pesters Reynard, the old man reveals himself to be a god known as the Trickster. Both Maeve and Rumina have heard of this god who plays trick on mortals for his boyish amusement. When they discover they had their powers all along, the women scare the Trickster off. Although Rumina lets Sinbad and his crew leave in peace, she promises she won't do the same the next time they meet.
