She also raised her glass "and to the life values" Thus summing up their considerations. Then she took a sip of wine and another bite of her fish. All in all his company was not so bad as she had thought. Not that she did not regret it anymore but it was not that bad. She guessed that her son had not been complaining either yesterday since he was fascinated with the local guards. Kriss needed to admit that their uniforms could do a great impression on a woman. Ziad did not look that bad, too if you watched him long enough but most of the girls in this town knew about it quite well. Kriss could hear much about captain of the city guard while doing shopping at the largest center of rumors on the earth - Basra's market. She had never paid much attention to his appearance but now, once she had the opportunity she could agreed a bit with his devotees. He did look...good. "I guess, you have many female admirers. I heard much about you not from the one girl at the market." She joked to sustain quite a different for them, seamlessly atmosphere.

Ziad raised an eyebrow at her. He was not married, not that there would have been none that would have wanted to marry him, but he simply hadn´t found it to be the right time yet. Maybe it was not a good idea to be that devoted to his work, but so far he had been and there had not been room for a family in his life. He had never really been unhappy about it. Which didn´t mean he was living like an hermite.
"What girl on the market?" he asked instead of reacting to her pointed remark.

Kriss could not help herself and giggled at his reaction which she had been expected somehow. On the other hand, she had thought that he rather could see what was going on around him. " So I guess, you didn't know your are so famous. You don't do shopping on our market too often, do you?" She raised her eyebrows and seeing his confused face she was trying to explain. Not that she did not like rumors but something was talling her that now she had no choice and needed to say it. "You know, this markt is full of local women who love the gossips. When I do the shopping, wanting it or not I can hear this and that. So I let you know that you are one of the post popular man in this town among the young and not only girls." Now she was trying to help herslef not to laugh. It reminded her morning shopping. She had found out that her son had become quite famous thanks to him as well. But she decided to keep it for heslef, at least for now.

Ziad kept looking at her as she talked. She was quite obviously amused. "Girls." he said with half a snort. "Always up for gossip."

Kriss chuckled again, "That's our nature-gossips..." She always saw men as potential gossipers, too but it was one of those topics that were not worth to moving. "You should get it as a compliment. Once young girls are talking about you, that means they have crush on you." She added smailing and regretting that she had started it.

"And that´s a good thing?" Ziad asked, not because it made him insecure or anything, but just because. "In my experience, crushing town girls means a lot of hushing and giggling that follows me around the corners and distracts me from my duty."

"I didn't say that's a good thing." Kriss denied and added, "I just said you should be proud that people admire you. Not only girls but my son, for example and I bet that many more boys in his age. But I would never, never suppose that something like laughing girls can distract someone like you from the duty..." She bit her lips and raised her eyebrows

Ziad was not quite sure what she was aiming at with this conversation, whether she was meaning to tease him or whether this was her way of a friendly conversation or whether she was aiming to make him insecure with her slightly flirty ways. Well, she wouldn´t be the first one to try he mused with an inward smirk. "Why are you telling me this?" he asked, slight amusement in his voice.

Kriss answered with the smirk on his one "Because you are not saying anything at all. I'm a woman. That's my nature, I talk a lot and since all I know about you are things which I heard at the market, I'm telling you this. I'm trying to be nice. I know you didn't get used to it but sometimes I really do. And concluding from the amusement in your voice you liked it!" She was shocked herslef by the number of words uttered in such a short time. In moments like this Shaingan had used to only make a confused face and nodding what had always driven Kriss mad.

Ziad looked at her, then let out a small chuckle. "Well," he said. "I´m a careful man. I´ve been told to first examine a situation and watch. See what comes of it, to limit the risks." He was poking fun at her of course. He didn´t see her as anyone dangerous. He had dealt with his share of dangerous people and she did not immediately strike him as one of them even though she had something fierce about her that might as well be an indicator for some hidden skills. Which then again would have proven his words all the more to be true.
"So after I have been scowled at, ignored, flirted with and nearly screamed at only to be then treated with contempt and then nicely asked to dinner, forgive my carefulness mylady." He said all this in a calm, perfectly mannered voice, hiding almost perfectly a small smirk that was playing at the edge of his mouth.

Kriss was sipping her wine but still watching and listening to him. The risk?...Honey, without my bow, I'm pretty helpless against the armed, trained captain of the city guard. But you don't need to know it, yet. She was thinking and smiling evilly. Was that the wine, waking up her inner naughty neture?
His report of their strange relation almost made her giggle again but she refrained herslef. "The apologies accepted...I didn't notice that we went through so much together..." She said with the full seriousness still refraining herself from giggling. "May I ask you something?"

Ziad nearly gave a small snort at her words, not the questions that followed it. She was quite obviously affected by the alcohol a bit more than himself, at least it seemed like it , the way she was shooting him glances like that. But then again, she had proven to be unpredictable he thought, rewinding the last evening when he had caught her in wet clothes in the middle of the night and she had all but thrown herself at him only to feel embarrassed about it in the next second.
"Certainly." he said.

"Do you know at all what is my name?" Kriss raised her eyebrows. For sure he did. He heard it but they had never been officially introduced and they had always turned to each other anonymously.

Ziad was a bit bewildered about the question, but then figured that it was a legitimate one. They had never formerly been introduced. Yet, he knew the answer. "Your name is Kriss." he said. "You never told that to me as far as I am aware, but the city guard is quiete informed about what is going on in the city. We do not know everything, but we do know the names of tavern owners. It´s not meant as spying, but it is important to keep the city safe."

"No, I have never had a good occasion to do it." Kriss responded with typical for her shadow of mystery in the voice. "Just to keep the city safe, let me clarify the gaps of your knowledge, I am Kriss de Valnor." She held out her hand. She has always stressed the value of her full name. She had not changed it after Shaigan's death, although many people advised it to her, for her safety.
