LOL! It actually took me a moment to figure out just what was wrong about that shark bird (I should REALLY get in bed, haha). xD xD xD Right though... it's a bit disturbing that pic. >_>
Haha, and the sleepwalker pic... oh gosh, that's scary! Mostly because while this actual one might be a montage (have no idea, really) there's enough people who actually camp at cliffs and stuff. >.<

Pretty much my reaction to a parent conference that starts at 7 and takes till after 10 because people find it necessary to discuss things they should have paid attention to a lot earlier... such as THE SCHOOL PROGRAMME

Well, the first thing we had to do was elect parent delegates, two in the class. Then someone raises their hand and says "i think the person that volunteers should say what they think about the possibility this school will become an all day school". Several issues taht bugged me there. 1) Some parents apparently had no idea this was in the discussion and has been for about 2 years. We are working on concepts a lot, in final stage so to say. Lots of work. Yet some parents, when signing up their kids to this school apparently don´t bother to read the school programme and then complain that "we didn´t know about this" 2) Each class has 2 parent delegats, out of all class´ delegates, 8 get elected to make up 1/3 of the school conference committee (the other two thirds being students and teachers) who will in the end decide on whether the concept we are workingon now will the put to plan or not. Apparently, thee people think their two little delegates can decide alone on whether or not this school will become an all day school or not. 3) They have no freaking idea of the concept. All they do is yell no, because they think itmeans their kids will always be home late and have no private life any more. which is nonsense since our concept aims to a) NOT add more lessons but homework times, hobby stuff and games, also support groups b) actually REDUCE the stress taht comes with the recent reforms of shortening school time by a year. In other words....see picture above

Hum, we've only ever had G8 grammar schools so I cannot really judge on the extra amount of stress that the shortening means for your pupils. I know however that it's a big problem that they constantly want to have more stuff taught in exactly the same time. Anyway. So your school's preparing for becoming an all-day-school? That's interesting, especially if the concept really rather covers support for the kids instead of more lessons and stuff. It must indeed be pretty frustrating though to have them parents show up at the meetings and send their kids to your school without ever having read the programme obviously. And then thinking their two delegates can decide on it alone. Oh dear. Hey, btw, I think it's great that the committee consists of teachers, students and parents one third each.

It´s misperception that many people thing that an all day school means more lessons in the subjects, mostly and obviously because there are rules about how many lessons in which subject the kids are allowed to have law-wise. So basically an all day programme would first of all just go for the younger students, grade 5 to 9, since the older ones have afternoon lessons anyways. for the younger ones it would mean three to four days where they stay till 3ish. the number of subejct bound lessons stays, what is added is stuff to losen up and relax the school day rhythm and that supports them in their learning, such as: - study hall where teachers can supervise and help them when they do their homework - offers for creative stuff such as sports clubs, theatre, photography,...This miht mean that e.g. Friday looks like this: English, the maths, then an hour of your choice club (e.g. theatre), tehn ah hour of homework, then lunch, then geography adn history and then home. The idea is really to reduce stress, not add to it. it means no more homework at home, because ideally it can be finished at school. Our ideas tht we have also include bigger projects such as something that we saw at a school in berlin which is called "Challenge" If we take that over for our programme that means that in grade 8 or 9, the students will be away from school for 2 weeks doing something they planned in groups as their personal challenge, e.g. working on a farm in france or doing a sailing trip or doing a bicycle tour with camping. The students plan it ALL on their own, but there is a teacher with them. Not to contorl tehm, not to help them ebcause this is their challenge, but to protect them of course. Other ideas we have are so called "study studios" that we could do. meaning that there are always 6 or 7 study studios offered per grade from grade 6 to 9, new ones each half year. In the course of your time at school you´d be required to participate in three half years. These study things are designed to eitehr help our practise new things. Help: - tutoring in the main subjects Challenge: things like English theatre, photography, fashion design, baseball, maths challenge So e.g.there is a kid who loves to be creative but is not good at English. Maybe that means he picks English tutoring in the second half of grade 7, then photography somewhen in grade 9 and another one also in grade 9 In other words, tehre are lots of ideas floating around.

Oh and I should mention we already are almost an all day school because apart from 5th and 6th grade they need to stay 3 or more afternoons anyways because of G8 schedules... Also, we have an awesome cafeteria for lunch four days of the week. One meal every day but also you can pick from a noodle bar, salad or pizza of you don´t like. there is desert too and it´s all you can eat

Haaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaahahaha!!!! ;D ;D The spider one is just made for me. ;D And the morning pic is so very fitting, too. Lol! The parenting pic is almost sad though - not because of the apes (certainly not!) but whoa, that mother with her child is somewhat scary, though of course we don't know the actual story behind the shot. Oh, and as for the fear-pic: O.O Oh dear! I wouldn't want to trade places with that guy! And in order to contribute a bit... here's a pretty mean one. >.> xD
