Heh. I was a pretty dramatic teen You call that dramatic? You weren't around when I saw that ep! ;D Seriously, the late nineties were still non-internet age for me (we got our first PC and internet access soon after, but when AoS was aired I was still offline as far as I remember) so I basically knew nothing about the ongoings. All I knew was that suddenly Maeve was gone, Bryn was there (and I disliked her with a passion, poor thing!) and the show was totally not what it had been during S1 (not to me anyway). And then, suddenly, there's Hell House, and I was just so thrilled to see red hair and hear that song... I didn't care at all that the woman was rather blatantly not Jacqueline... ah, I remember watching that ep with a racing heart, being sad and utterly happy at the same time due to the talk with Mala (delighted) and the disguise lifted (heart-broken). But what I was above all was devastated when I eventually noticed the TV magazine said "final ep". Because... they had just given me a ray of hope. After watching the whole of S2 they FINALLY mention Maeve again and that was supposed to be it? I was in emotional shock for about two weeks (well, no serious one obviously, but you get the picture). Now talk again about being dramatic, dear. manche: Yeah, that annoyed me, too, big time - that the search for DimDim was no topic anymore at all. And that's although Maeve was now with him! I must admit it never really bothered me though that Doubar and the crew didn't address Maeve at the end of Hell House because quite frankly, they never knew about the Harpy and the disguise it had used. So in order for them to speak about the Lass, Sinbad would have first had to tell them how he had been lured into the dungeon. *shrugs* Agree with you on the chars though. Maeve's always been my favourite, too. Along with Dermott of course. ^^

I can not describe, how I was happy when I watched this episode for the first time. It was a few years after the ending of the show (in our country the second season was aired only one time and was not aired completely). After the first episode of the second season I seriously thought about stopping watching, but I have changed my mind. I hoped that they will find Maeve. And in this episode it looked so hopefully. Until the point with Harpy, I did not stop hoping, that it is really Maeve. But I think that for all fans Maeve and Sinbad (I am one of them) was this episode a certain compensation for the second season.
Usage of their music theme was wonderful.

Same with me quite frankly. A friend reccomended this show to me back in 1998, so when i finally found the televison station that was airing it i began to watch it. I would tape all of the episodes in the morning and watch them after school. the very first episode i watched was "stalkers" which i instantly fell in love with. I had no idea that maeve even existed until season 1. Which left me confused because i didnt know who "Maeve" was so i immediatly disliked season 1. It would take me a couple of years to finally enjoy the first season, (sorry S1ers) but even now, I will often fall back onto my season 2 preferences. Encept for this site, (roleplay) this site keeps me in line, and keeps me enjoying the show as a whole.

The both seasons were completely different. Each person has different taste. I like this show in a global scale. There were interesting plots and moments in the second season. But for my taste, the atmosphere, emotions among crew and more interesting plots did the first season memorable for me. I have the strong bond towards the first season. The second season is quite good, but I have not any specific connection to it.

manche: Same here! I think I, too, considered abandoning the show at some point, but in the end I just couldn't do that. I watched all of S2, hoping so desperately to see Maeve again. So when "Hell House" came about I was over the moon for the most part of that ep. Of course, I was heartbroken though when the Harpy showed up. And together with realizing that this was indeed it... I was pretty much devastated. But even if so, I, too, felt like having received a little compensation for watching S2. Because finally Maeve's presence was at least being acknowledged - as were Sinbad's feelings for her. And that alone was more than just important for me. alex: Aw, I can imagine, dear! I think I never really thought about how someone must've felt about this ep who started watching during S2. Maeve was never an issue then and suddenly that redheaded woman shows up and Sinbad goes all desperate and runs off without a thought of his own wellbeing. Must have been pretty confusing for you, right? And I can so picture how strange it must have been then to watch S1 - where everything was so different and where there was no Bryn. Aw, but I'm so happy you do now enjoy S1, too, and that you enjoy the setting of Distant Lands. *hugs just because* manche & Bryn: Indeed we all have our own preferences, and people who started watching during S2 will usually always favour that season, while those who started watching during S1 will always hold that close to their hearts. Both seasons were good in their very own ways, and which one you prefer depends on when you got hooked on the show and on whether you like the more mature approach, or the more light-hearted one. In any case though am I so happy to see that here onboard both S1 and S2 fans have come to a mutual understanding and that we all can just enjoy this lovely little show - no matter which season we actually prefer.

When I finished the subtitle for this episode the last week, i realized that i forgot to mention the great scene from this episode. The final talk of Doubar with Mala was simply briliant there, very well acted and very emotional. The most impressive scene from the second season and one of the best scenes in the whole tv series. I almost shed a tear there and this sad melody in the background created atmosphere as well (same was in Bully, if i remember it correctly).

Pretty sure that music is Doubar's much like Maeve's was made for her and Sinbad.

Oh, this is definitely one of my favorite scenes as well. So touching, and so well acted it showed just how much mother and son really love each other and that while Sinbad might be Mala's little one she'll always be there for Doubar, too. I never noticed it was the same music as in the Bully though. O.o I shall certainly have to compare!

Actually, Sinbad, Maeve, Doubar, and Bryn all have specific musical sequences if I remember correctly....

Seriously? O.O That completely slipped my attention! Ah, almost makes me want to watch the whole show again, see whether there's indeed recurring themes. ^^

I knew about the music theme for Maeve or Sinbad but i did not notice the music theme for Doubar or Bryn. I will have to watch it more closely for the next time. But for example Firouz also had his own music theme in a few episodes (a merry tune)

Yep, he did too; I think even Rongar had a tune in the ep where the crew find out he's really a prince.
