He is the main one I think of when I hear "bows and arrows." Are you referring to the 4 hobbits, or one of Legolas' kind?

Hobbits are not elves, they are human. Elves are the legolas types, & they have the bows & arrows.

*is picky* Actually, hobbits aren´t human. Even though Tolkien has written TONS of stuff and explained EVERY detail of his world and its mythology, there is one blank: hobbits. Tolkien´s mythology explains the origins of every species, of elves, humans, dwarves, orks, balrogs, goblins,... but no one knows where hobbits actually came from.

He´s an elf, I bet he has something snowflakey speshul about him, so he´s not affected by it. Btw, you´ve not read the Silmarillion, have you? It´s elves all over. ;D

Oh! The hobbits aren't human? Could be! Could be, yes. But there is no real evolution to be seen in Tolkien´s universe which would explain the hobbits as in their are just a side branch that adapted to the circumstances and became smaller. But since Tolkien doesn´t seem to be a genius when it comes to genetics ;D (since he explains the orcs as being tortured elves.. interesting how torture changes genetic structures ), I guess they are just a black whole in the system

That's a level of torture only possible by Sauron, me thinks.

The Sil´s writing style is... difficult at times, especially on the pages where Tolkien elaborates the pedigrees of like 3 elven lords over generations in a row ;D But it is beautifully written and has some AWESOME stuff. It basically starts with the creation myth of middle earth and the history of the gods (which adds a lot of background an understanding to the Lord of the Rings) and then moves on to the battles of good against evil (there are huge parallels between the Middle Earth creation myth and the Bible at times, since just like Satan who was originally an angel, one of the Valar in Tolkien´s myths starts with discord and becomes Morgoth (the guy with the balrogs and stuff)) and then turns towards the first Elves who stay in paradise for a while and partly stay, partly leave when one of their people starts a massacre that was initiated by Morgoth. So it´s basically the history of the Elves through the ages. One of them made the Silmaril, beautiful gem stones and the elves start to murder each other to possess them. And at some point, Illuvatar (God) also creates humans and they come into it all. There are great, beautifully crafted stories in that book for example the tale about Féanor, the elf who made the Silmaril or the lovers Beren and Lúthien who are briefly mentioned in the Lord of the Rings (him a mortal, her an elf). Best love story EVER told.
