When the third sister wanted to bring Sinbad to her lair by the leader of the village, it was clearly shown that he planed to escape with his gold instead of this. But later he went with Sinbad to her lair according her demands. Was his change of mind explained in a way or it was unexplained? Yes, he killed one villager who found that something is wrong, but it does not look as a reason for such a change, more it looks as a next reason for the escape.
By the way, the crew did not notice again quite for a longer time that Firouz stayed somewhere behind during the searching of the forest. It happened in the second season more times, did not it?

Oh, I would have to re-watch this episode as right now I truly cannot remember whether there was any hint on why he changed his mind. I must confess, I'm not terribly fond of this ep anyway though, so I might never have paid too close attention anyway. Ahum. >.>
As for the not noticing: Well, yeah, it would seem that was more frequent in S2. Right now I wouldn't know when during S1 someone went missing and nobody noticed. *ponders*

I am not fond of this episode as well, but I like thinking about individual points in the narrative of stories. Maybe he realised that escaping as a murderer would be too dangerous for him and that he needs the help of his protectress. (She could be grateful to him if he helped to catch the murderer of her sisters according his opinion)
I do not remember anything similar in the first season. Maeve was separated from her friends at the beginning of The Ties That Bind and Trickster but it was before any danger appeared. Maybe it was risky to leave Maeve in the company of Vincenzo in Still Life but they did not have many different choices. They were not together all time in The Village Vanishes but it made sense as well, they were evidently there for a longer period of time and this danger was not the physical nature. I was only thinking that the boys could go with Maeve to find Xander in The Prince who Wasn’t, there still could be guards searching for him. But it is not a completely same case.
