Summary:
As Sinbad and his crew sail The Nomad through a treacherous storm, a longboat runs into the side of the ship. Two desperate sailors and their captain, Fontassel climb on board, leaving another sailor to drift away. Before Sinbad can rescue the abandoned sailor, long tendrils of seaweed rise up out of the water and drag him screaming into the sea.
The three remaining sailors tell of being lost at sea for seven days. They lost their ship in rough waters while searching for Poseidon's gold trident, a scepter of awesome power. Maeve senses that the atmosphere of the ship has been invaded by something ominous, and Sinbad warns his crew to beware their new shipmates.
That night, Sinbad and Maeve find one of the sailors standing in the shadows on deck. While staring out across the water, Sinbad tries to comfort the distraught sailor. Just then, the longboat mysteriously thuds up against the boat. As Sinbad and Maeve go below deck, the sailor hears an eerie song and turns to see a siren, a ghostly woman in a long white gown with seaweed in her hair moving towards the boat. Fontassel and the other sailor are also tormented by the song. Hearing a scream, Sinbad and the others run upstairs to find the sailor's lifeless body dripping wet and covered with seaweed. From the looks of him, Firouz surmises that he has been dead for a week!
The next day, Fontassel and his remaining sailor nearly kill each other in a fight. Tallow claims that , due to Fontassel, he is the "walking dead waiting to drop." Tallow locks himself in his cabin when the song of the Siren is heard again. Tallow screams hysterically as water and sea weed pour out from underneath the door. The others unsuccessfully try to break down the door. Then, suddenly, the water recedes and the door opens. Tallow is dead, with the same signs of having drowned a week ago.
Sinbad finally succeeds in forcing the reluctant Captain Fontassel to tell his tale. He and Tallow met an old mariner who boasted of having a map that revealed where the sea god Poseidon rises from the depths to sun himself, leaving his trident on a rocky ledge. Tallow killed the mariner and stole the map. On their journey to steal the trident, their progress was hindered by a dolphin. Fontassel harpooned the dolphin, which cried out in the voice of a woman and disappeared beneath the waves. Maeve interrupts the story to tell them that the dolphin was Eurynome, one of Poseidon's sirens, a sea spirit that can change form to help or hinder sailors. Fontassel continues; A sudden storm forced them back to their ship. The men became frightened when they could hear the woman's cry in the wind. Fontassel ordered his top mates into the longboat and abandoned the rest of his men.
Just then, the wind dies out and Fontassel notices The Nomad has been drawn back to the spot where the trident can be found. After Sinbad refuses to help satisfy his lust for gold, Fontassel grabs Maeve, holding a knife to her throat. With Maeve as his hostage, he orders Sinbad, Doubar and Firouz into their quarters and barricades the door. He makes Rongar tie Maeve to the mast and orders Rongar and some of the deck hands into the longboat. Maeve uses her magic to free herself and the others while Dermott the hawk distracts Fontassel. Maeve telepathically assures Eurynome they are not part of Fontassel's plan and promises to defeat him.
A duel between Sinbad and Fontassel begins on deck. Sinbad runs his sword through Fontassel, producing a dribble of green water from his chest. Captain Fontassel stands defiant and explains that he and his men are immortal and cannot die at a mortals hand. Suddenly, Poseidon rises from the depths of the sea. Using his godly powers, he sends Fontassel to a watery grave. Poseidon then dissapears into the sea, letting The Nomad continue its journey.
