Summary:
Sinbad and his crew save the attractive young Jullaner from getting duped by a group of greedy pirates led by Plunkett, an old rival of Sinbad. Desperately trying to return home to her missing father, Jullaner had attempted to hire the pirates to help her, but the smooth talking Plunkett was only interested in stealing hergold. Sinbad, recognizing a damsel in distress, defeats the pirates and offers to take Jullaner home to the Island of Mylagia himself.
For years Jullaner's father, an alchemist and scientist, had helped the inhabitants of Mylagia prosper from the island's fertile soil. Sinbad and the crew find the land barren and deserted. When they try to get rooms in an inn, the door is abruptly slammed in their face. Sinbad and the crew are then attacked by a group of villagers led by Milfer, the innkeeper, with the intent to kill Jullaner. They are no match for Sinbad and his crew. Defeated, Milfer tells Sinbad that Jullaner's father has created monsters which have destroyed their lives. Milfer proceeds to warn them of the dangers in the forest. Despite the warning, Sinbad and his crew insist on accompanying Jullaner to find her father.
On the way to Mahmud's Palace, Sinbad narrowly escapes a hungry dragon-sized lizard. They come across a village that has been destroyed -- only a pile of rubble remains. Along their journey, Firouz falls into a sinkhole which he believed was caused by the giant lizard's tracks. Dermott, the hawk, reports that no animals have been seen on the island. Jullaner cannot believe her father could be responsible for such horrible things. When they finally arrive at Mahmud's home, a huge bird of prey buzzes overhead and forces them to seek shelter in the palace.
Searching the dusty, cob-webbed palace from room to room, they find Mahmud's workshop door locked. Exhausted, the crew decides to continue their search in the morning. Doubar and Rongar keep watch while the others sleep by a fire. Two eyes appear in the eye slits in a painting of a knight, they hear the rattling of chains and suddenly a spear streaks out of the darkness, embedding itself in the opposite wall. Doubar wakes Sinbad and they go check the spear in the wall, but it's gone.
An arrow and then an ax fly mere inches from Firouz's head. Suddenly a man dressed as a warrior appears. Sinbad swings from the chandelier and removes the warrior's helmet. Jullaner recognizes him as being her father's elderly manservant Caitiff, who claims he was only trying to protect the house from robbers.
Jullaner eagerly asks Caitiff about her father. Caitiff opens up Mahmud's workroom door which reveals her father, who is now twenty-five feet tall. He turns and bellows out his daughter's name. After recovering from the shock, she rebukes her father for not writing to prepare her for what she might find. He then begins to tell his tale of helping mankind. Mahmud believed that increasing the size of animals would increase the food supply and eliminate the need for war. His early gigantic specimens, however, quickly overran the humans. His next realization was that the only way to bring peace was to increase the human mind. He put himself to the test by taking the elixir. As his size grew, so did his ego, until he believed himself a god.
When Sinbad and his crew try to reason with him against taking the rest of the elixir, Mahmud traps them under a room sized crate. Mahmud then turns to Jullaner and gives her an ultimatum: rule with him or die with Sinbad. Jullaner cannot let her father destroy everything, including himself.
In the morning, Jullaner helps Sinbad and crew escape. The giant Mahmud chases after them. But Mahmud's size cannot be supported by the ground. He ends up sinking down into the Earth. Later, Jullaner decides to honor her father by remembering the good man he once was. Sinbad and crew bid her well before returning to The Nomad.
