Telling from the waves that gently rocked the ship in a smoothing rhythm Doubar knew it was a fine and calm morning - one that held promises of a good day at sea ... and an even better one on shore. The first mate stretched with pleasure while he left his cabin without any haze. The cool morning air crept through the alleyway that connected the crew’s cabins to one another and made him instantly feel at ease. For a moment he wondered if any of his dear friends was already up, making sure the ship lost no speed on its way, but knowing he would find out anyway he let his way be directed by his senses that currently knew exactly where he was to go to:
Humming one of his favourite sailor’s songs Doubar finally entered the galley. “No one here!?”, he half mumbled to himself, heading for the cabinet as he did so. Searching for what was in there Doubar detected that someone must have taken only half a loaf of bread this night for the other was still in there. Shrugging he grabbed it along with some jerky and the flask of water he had brought from his cabin. After having a short look at the stairs that lead to deck he finally made himself comfortable at one of the benches that surrounded the big table in the center. And although of course his stomach would have preferred to be served with fresh meat, fruit and whine he began to eat with appetite.

Bryn came into the galley, half-chuckling from her conversation with Sinbad. She did not want to go to her room just in case Dermott decided to take a little nap. She did not want to wake her feathered friend. After all, he needed sleep. Thus, she thought she would go and sit in the galley and maybe eat something while she was there. She wasn't really hungry but that would give her something to do. Maybe there would be somebody to talk to.
She was glad to see Doubar. She smiled and sat down across from him. "Well, you're up early. What brings you up at this hour?"

When Doubar heard the door that lead downstairs to the galley unlock, he instinctively looked up from his meagre meal to turn his attention to the coming crew mate. Although he had not expected the brunette to be the one, he felt his lips curve in a friendly smile while he watched her come closer. She as well held a chuckle in her features, he noticed, and wondered - even if only for a split second - what might have caused that. Following her moves with his eyes he noticed with pleasure that she was about to join him. What brings you up at this hour?, he heard her ask and felt a grin spread on his face as the answer he would give her on that already started to form in his head. “Oh, you should know me, Bryn”, he smiled broadly at her, “Land is lying ahead of us and I do not intend to let it wait. “ Just for a moment then he simply let his words linger between them, gulping down his last piece of bread as he did so. “But, while we're at it: why is it you’ve already been up there? Nothing wrong, I hope, or is it?”, he suddenly asked, not knowing himself for sure just why this question had come up to his mind right now. Most likely it had been that strange warning that featherbrain had given them the day before that had made him think of something like that now, despite knowing that there was no hint at all for something to in deed be off. After all, if there really had been difficulties, he knew, his brother would have sent someone to wake him and Bryn wouldn’t show such a good mood. But still, before allowing himself to fully relax again, he waited for the sorceress to answer.

Bryn smiled at the gentle giant. She chuckled at a thought and shook her head. "And you needed your food." She could almost laugh at her joke, but she did not want to upset Doubar. Instead she answered Doubar's question. "Sorry. Anyway, no there is nothing wrong. I just wanted to get some fresh air. And since I found Sinbad up on deck, too, I decided to have a little chat with him."

Doubar noticed the little joke Bryn was making and smiled at it. He knew his eating manners amused some of the crew but he did not mind them doing that. After all, all what they had shown him till now, had always been some good-natured teasing amongst friends and with that one he was perfectly okay. Hearing her go on however, and answering his question, he let his face take on a more serious look. "Sinbad's already been up as well, you say?", he asked the young one, raising his eye brows a little as he did so. "Isn't it a bit early for his shift", he soon after half mumbled to no no one in particular, but then, nevertheless, looked expectantly at the brunette sorceress.

Bryn was a little surprised at Doubar's reaction. "Well, honestly I was surprised to see him up to. I asked him why he was up so early, but he did not answer. I asked him if he slept well, and he said he was fine." She chuckled. "I called him a liar. It was obvious from his eyes that he had not slept any."

Hearing her answer he weighed his head thoughtfully. Hadn't it been for the past days he wouldn't have even bothered to take Bryn's words too seriously, but given the circumstances he did. Having seen his little brother muse about things that had been buried inside of him for more than a year, had hurt him. Doubar had so wanted to spare him what he was going through, but he couldn't. And when hearing now that although Sinbad pretended to be fine, he didn't look like that, the first mate was sure that in deed the younger one must have slept only little this night if not nothing at all. At this thought Doubar let a silent sigh escape his throat. He knew he couldn't do anything to make it any easier for his little brother. Sinbad had to find his way on his own. Doubar himself could only be there for him whenever he needed someone to talk to. "Well", he finally stated, hoping that Bryn had not noticed his little thinking, "he's old enough, I think. He will handle some lack of sleep." Then, trying to skip back into a lighter mood, he smiled at the brunette. "He's always been a bad liar, you know. His eyes always tell the truth", he explained at her, before looking down on his plate again, where two more pieces of jerky were lying. Knowing that land - and with that the opportunity for his little brother to free his mind a little and get adjusted to the things he finally began to understand - was close, he chose not to think about that anymore and enjoy the sorceress' company instead. "You want any?", he then asked her, guesturing towards the dry meat that lay infront of him.

Bryn looked at Doubar's plate. "No thank you, I'm not that hungry." She looked at him, smiled, and smirked. "And I don't want you to go hungry." She looked down at the floor. "Why would Sinbad lie to me? I don't like it when he lies. Seems like he is trying to hide something. It is just frustrating. Some days he is cheerful and open. Other days he is down and dark." She looked up at Doubar who was munching on his meal. "Sorry too bring it up. I know it is not a very pleasant topic to talk about at the table." Smiling and deciding change the subject, she asked, "So, how is it?" motioning to the plate.

„You really want me to answer that?”, he retorted with a chuckle in his voice that had to tell her he was being ironic. Jerky really wasn’t the best of all meals and if there had been something different on board, he had of course taken it. But after weeks on sea he simply had no other choice. “And you need not worry about me”, he continued soon after, “land will give me plenty of opportunities to still any hunger I might have.” Grinning broadly then he winked at her, telling her with this that he still was joking. “About the other however”, he suddenly murmured, losing that light tone in his words in an instant. “Sinbad doesn’t mean to hurt you. In fact that is one of the last things he would ever want.” Doubar’s gaze slowly lowered to rest on his hands that had stopped moving and now lingered above the last tiny piece of meat. “He’s always been like that, you know. Not telling what’s going on inside of him and pretending he is fine instead.” While telling this, the first mate’s voice got distant in some way and his sight lost its focus. “He doesn’t lie to you on purpose”. Then, suddenly, he lifted his head again and let a smile – one which didn’t reach his eyes though - cover his face. “You needn’t apologize for saying what’s on your mind Bryn. Sinbad can be complicated at times”, he half sighed, “but he’ll get past this. Believe me. Just have a little faith in him.”

Bryn smiled and nodded at him then gave out a deep sigh. "I do have faith in him. I knew he did not mean to lie. That is why I joked with him. But a lie is a lie. On the outside I did not show it, but on the inside it hurt. I hope he gets out of his little mood swing quickly, because I don't like it." She looked a Doubar sympathetically and smiled. "Thank you for listening to me. You really are a good friend." She leaned over and patted the giant's hand then sat back down. "I just what to see that happy, cheerful, boyish Sinbad."

Doubar listened carefully to everything the young woman said. And he was able to understand her. For one who didn't know Sinbad the way he - his brother - did, those lies, intentionally made or not, would most likely look like the captain didn't trust them. They would feel hurt and that, the first mate figured out, was exactly what Bryn felt like right now. Following her hand with his gaze, he noticed the warm touch of her fingers, patting his own rough ones in a friendly guesture. He was glad to be there for her. In all this time she had been aboard, he had grown to really like her and helping a friend was something he did with pleasure. At the last words the sorceress spoke, however, Doubar raised his head. His eyes searched hers as he looked at her blankly. "Happy and cheeful", he muttered, repeating her own words with that, "yes he has been like that." Although he did not exactly know why, the first mate continued to stare at the petite brunette for just another moment. Whether it was for the fact that she obviously knew about how his little brother had been like once, or if it was rather for the fact that it was strange to have someone say out loud what you have been only thinking for long, he didn't know. But deciding it did not matter anyway, he suddenly tore his gaze apart again. Grabbing the last piece of jerky and ripping it in half, he asked her seemingly casually: "You sound like you have a clear image of how Sinbad has been like..."

Bryn looked at him then looked down at the ground. “Not exactly. That is just what Dermott told me.” She looked back again at the gentle giant.

Doubar rised is eyebrows a little. For long had he suspected that the brunette had a special bond to the bird that seemed similar to the one the hawk had also shared with the Lass, but hearing he really "told" her things, startled him. "Dermott told you?", he asked somewhat unbelievingly. "How?"

Bryn looked at him a little strangely. At first, she thought of it as an obvious answer. Then thinking about it, she realized it was not so obvious. She thought how she could explain it. "We kind-of talk through our minds, kind-of like exchanging our thoughts."

We kind-of talk through our minds, kind-of like exchanging our thoughts. Exchaning thoughts. Doubar had heard that before. At first he couldn't quite remember it, but suddenly an image popped up in his head. It was the Lass, heading for the coast and explaining him along the way, just why she knew what was going on. It had been the day when Rumina had captured Sinbad and none but the redhead had known that something had been wrong at all. We share thoughts and feelings sometimes, she had said. Back then he had just taken it as given - too much had he been occupied with the recent events. And later on? Well, later he had simply accepted that she somehow seemed to understand her bird. With Bryn he had always suspected a similar thing - that for some magic reason she knew what featherbrain was up to. But hearing now that he "talked" and "thought" surprised him to an extent he had never imagined. "He talks to you?", he asked baffled, "Just like we do?". A little helplessly he guestured with his hands to the brunette and himself.
